I really want to get boudoir pics for DH for our "wedding" gift / 2 yr. anniversary.

[We were married in Jan. 08, but it was very low key. We're planning the real wedding with the dress, rings, and party for January 2010.]

But my main question is about the photographer. I was leaning towards a female, but I was wondering if anybody had a great experience with a male photographer? Any input would be awesome!

Also, anybody know of someone great in the Wisconsin/Iowa/Illionis area?

It is going to be impossible to keep this a secret-- I'm so excited!! elefant.gif

heres my feeling on this... and this might sound kind of weird but maybe its helpful... now take a hypothetical male and female photographer and assume they are completely equal in photographic skills (and neither of them are weird or creepy and really easy going)... who to go to?

Pros going with a woman:

1. as a woman you are definatly going to feel more comfortable doing a shoot like that in front of a woman. GRANTED.. given.. no questions about that.. its like going to a male ob/gyn. (of course my dad was one and all his patients loved him so there are exceptions haha)

2. a guy might end up being a total creep.. trust me. ive meeting plenty in my day and gives the rest of us a bad name.

Pros with going with a male photographer:

1. I kind of feel (as a male) that I have an understanding of whats going to be a great photo for him. I would know what he will enjoy and a woman of course will make some great photos

2. As a straight guy theres this attraction towards women and wanting to photograph them. I don't think id be able to photograph a shoot like that for a man as well as i do for a woman because i dont have the passion there to do it. you have to be passionate about what you are shooting and i just find the beauty in a woman more then a man (thank god im not gay, but if i was, then perhaps this advice would be layed out differently hahaha). Hope that doesnt make me sound creepy or anything because its strictly about the images captured. if i saw a woman in her underwear id think "wowww hot woman in her underwear" BUTTTT if you put a camera in my hand all of a sudden i think "wowwww hot woman in her underwear im gonna photograph her like this and like that because that could make for some awesome photos". its really strange how my mentality changes when im doing a shoot. and im sure others can back me up here.

i think it comes down to passion in the end with those types of photos. wedding photography wise its even playing field.. and im not saying that women wouldnt shoot the hell out of a boudoir because i know tons of female photographer friends of mine that shoot some awesome pics.. but maybe im on this view point because it wouldnt be something fun for me as much to shoot some guy rolling around in his underwear and tryign to come up with sexy shots of that. i guess my mind doesnt work as well that way hahaha.

well now that ive wasted everyones time with my ramblings ill end it with disregard everything ive just said. i just shot a wedding and im tired and even though i should just not reply to this post and delete what ive just said maybe just maybe it would help someone out.. somewhere..

in a nut shell.. pick the photographer you feel most comfortable with because in the end thats what is going to make the best photos. if you're not comfortable then they wont be as great

THE END hahaha

I agree with jean-marcus lol knowing my luck (if i did it which i'm not) I'd end up with a female photographer who is "right on" and the pics would be crap lol

With a male photographer you are gonna get pics your FI is defo going to like because face it - even if they aren't creepy - blokes are basically horney lol

Good point JM. I definitely agree with that...

You are a riot! The creepiness factor is a big consideration. I think you really have to go with someone that you are comfortable because no matter what the quality of the photos are, if you are uncomfortable that will show in your pics!!! good luck finding a photographer!

I still want to get these done one day!

However, I had an ex who was one of those creepy male photographers, so that kind of made me iffy on going with a guy.

But, when I get mine done, I want a more Maxim-ish type feel to the photos and most female BD photographers seem to have a more "soft" approach to the photos. They are more "pretty" whereas I sort of want a more mens mag feel.

oh trust me. those creepy photographers are a dime a dozen.. i met one who is sooooo creepy.. he has this kind of high pitched voice and totally looks like he would be showing up on "to catch a predator" next month... i heard from someone who hired him for a fashion shoot that one of the models "hoohaa" popped out while she was changing and he started snapping photos of her. EWWWW CREEPY

Great points JM.

I would really like to do a BD for out first anniversary gift. My photog from the wedding was great, she is a close friend, and I trust her completely.

However, I would like to find a male photographer. I am fairly comfortable with my body and I like to flirt. I think I would get flirtier/sexier pictures with a man behind the camera. I would be able to "get into character" a little better, and as Jean Marcus pointed out, a man knows what another man would like to see.

I agree with JM on the point of view a guy would have, but I personally would never have been comfortable with a male photographer for my BD. You need to be relaxed to take a good BD session, so if you aren't going to be completely comfortable, go with a woman...

Also, I wore a corset for a few of my shots, and guess who helped me get it on... yup, that would be my photog! Forget everything else, I would not have wanted to ask a guy to help me get my lingerie on...

Just my 2 cents.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
