Gran Bahia Principe Akumal/Tulum/Coba - POST HERE!

Recommended Posts

I was wondering what kind of rates you gals got for your groups. We are getting them and they seem to keep changing and are a bit higher then I would have expected (even after we reserved 25 airline seats). Also my TA just told me that the standard rooms sold out for the week of our wedding so that means all of our guest will have to book the junior suites, sounds kind of strange right. One of the reasons we booked this resort was due to the number of rooms. If it is sold out already and our wedding is not until Feb now I am starting to panic.smile43.gif

I don't honestly remember our rates... however if your group is booking at the Akumal section the regular rooms selling out is quite common. There are VERY few of them at the Akumal section. Coba has none. So I wouldn't panic too much :)

hmmmm. That's weird. I would go to funjet.com and check their rates and availability. My TA charged the same exact rate that was on funjet.

I'm not sure I can be much help. We booked the Tulum section for Jan and our rates were $1900 per person taxes in for one week. We also got the 16 person free. For two weeks I think it was $2400 per person taxes in. We went with Signature Vacations.

ETA: We flew out of Winnipeg, Manitoba

ETA: Have you tried contacting other TA's (if you're using a TA)?

Obviously it depends on where you fly out of and the time of year - we're going Sat Oct 25 to Sat Nov 1st from Vancouver (Canada) and we're paying $1277.25 (including taxes) for anyone that booked before the end of May. On June 1st the fuel surcharge went up $100 so anyone that put a deposit down June 1st or after, the cost is $1377.25. Our TA told us it doesn't matter how many people book, as long as you have 10 you get the group rate. The only incentative for more people booking is that every 21st person (for our specific tour op) is free - they just pay the taxes of $277.25.

Our tour op (Air Canada) doesn't offer jr. suites in the Tulum section so the rates are based on standard rooms. If guests want jr. suites then they get moved to Coba but all our guests decided that being closer to the water was more important than having a bit bigger room.

With regards to the set menu, Jazmin sent me a menu for the Tequila restaurant - JustMartha I can send it along to you if you want - I'm not sure if it is the same as on BahiaGourmet.

Also, does anyone know how flexible they are with the set menu? We have a couple of vegetarians coming and some people who will only eat fish (no other meat) and then some who love their meat. I really really don't want to have to decide for all of them!!
We had three vegetarians in our group and we just told her in our meeting and she took their names and brought them a separate meal. No charge, no worries! :o)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
