Is this "appropriate"?

Thanks for the honesty ladies it helps a lot!!! wink.gif
You may want to register anyway for some stuff you really want, otherwise people are not going to be sure of what to give you. :)

Andrea,

I'm in loveland, and I had the same idea on my mind..........next summer seems too late, this summer seems too early, what to do.........??

So, I think we're leaving it in his parent's hands (that feels great to say, b/c most of it will be for his parents and family).

I'd love to do a happy hour kind of thing at a local bar in March, but we shall see..........

I say just wait and do it next summer. Have an engagement party this summer. We are in the same position as you. We live in Colorado and our wedding is in December. We wanted to have an AHR afterwards, but also desire to do something outside. So, we are having a big engagement party next week when we go home to see my parents. That way we will still be able to have some of our friends that won't be with us in Mexico.

OMG I have had this issue too! People see this so differently. I did not want gifts AT ALL...and people just couldnt understand that . I set up a charity registry and I had people complain about it. I even had one person come to me and ask if someone gave me money would I send it to charity.... go figure. I told people, that we have everything and so we didnt need to register for towels or china (heck we live in JAPAN... I can go straight to the mikasa factory)Anyhow, I ended up doing a registry at an airline that I frequent. Only one person gave but I got a shit load of crap that I dont need. I honestly cant wait to regift. ... now thats being honest.

Just a thought: Have your party now and if your parents or friends want that didnt make it want to throw you an informal AHR, then go for it, otherwise... start saving your money for your new life as husband and wife.... I say, if they want an AHR, they should throw it for you to celebrate in your happiness... its kinda like throwing your own bday party... I just dont get that... kinda makes you wonder...

Well,

As another Colorado bride my suggestion is to have an engagement party this summer - and call it an engagement party - just to keep it wedding related otherwise it sounds like a BBQ. This is a special time in your life and you deserve to have everything related to it to be special!

We're getting married in November and I TOTALLY understand your icy road concerns. We're having an AHR brunch the Saturday after Thanksgiving.

It's usually still somewhat warm and we're doing it in the morning/afternoon to avoid icy roads just in case.

Good luck!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
