Help needed on finding "scholarly" research articles for a paper...

I know we have some professors out there... Maura, where are you?? wink.gif

Here's the deal:

I am writing a research paper in World Lit. We got to pick our topic but it is a Summer Session so we've had very little time to write it (not to mention the teacher has not once let up on the other short papers and book reading assignments). Anyways, between work and another Senior level class that I am taking concurrently I have admittedly fallen behind and JUST NOW getting started on my paper - AHHHH! Bad Jaime! S&M.gif sad.gif

My topic/thesis is basically this:

There is a strong correlation between food and emotions in Laura Esquivel's novel Like Water for Chocolate. (or something to this effect, I haven't even written this part down! S&M.gif)

I need to find 4 scholarly, peer reviewed journal articles that back up my thesis. I am having a hard time doing this and the subject librarian that I need to speak with is off and I don't think she's going to be in at all this weekend (my paper is due on Monday).

I have no idea if these databases are specific to UTA or not but so far I have looked in JSTOR, Academic Search Complete and MLA International Bibliography (the last has been the most helpful but I am still not there).

This should be a common theme so I don't know why I'm having such difficulty finding these sources!

If you can help me think of different search terms or databases to look in that would be greatly appreciated!!! TIA!

Also, my school has online journals available through our library available. Does yours?
Yes, we do. There is a section online called "Library Databases A-Z". We have a really good library. Ugh, it is killing me that I waited so late because the lady I wanted to meet with is an expert at finding any article you could possibly imagine...

Thanks so much for the offer, I will let you know. Right now I am totally jacked up on caffeine which I thought would help but it is not helping at all and I feel like my brain is being pulled in a million directions cheesy.gif

Google Scholar
I have heard of Google scholar but if I remember correctly it is more difficult to find "peer reviewed" articles on there. I'll check it out tho!

Ok I'm hijacking my own thread:

I am about to kill my dogs!

Conor just peed in the house for the 2nd time today, and while I shuffled him outside Ollie chowed down on my TV dinner. Conor beat me up the stairs on the way back in and they were both up on the couch (right in the spot where Conor peed earlier) licking the plate clean. girl_werewolf.gif censored.gif

I think it's time for a breather and a small glass of wine.... I have a feeling this is going to be a long night...

You know, I think I might just change my topic. I've read "Like Water for Chocolate" before but I would need to reread it and I don't even have a copy yet. We just finished reading Maxine Hong Kingston's "The Woman Warrior" which I really enjoyed. Maybe I can do something on Chinese-American identity or symbolism in the novel... I think this may be a better route to go considering I don't have a whole lot of time left.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
