Customs issues?

Recommended Posts

Hi! Sorry if this question has been answered already - I'm new!

I was thinking that I would just pack the mini bottles of sunscreen and other beauty products for my OOT stuff in my suitcase, but I'm worried that the Customs in Cabo will see all the bottles and think I'm trying to start a beauty supply store or import/export business!! (I know that not every bag gets searched, but I've got the type of luck that always makes the red light turn on when you push the customs button.)

How do other brides get stuff down there?

Thanks!

i posted this in the OOT thread:

we were brining down stuff for 60 people and i was def. worried about the stuff going through customs...what i did was split the stuff between bags and had some go in my mom and dads bag...i wasnt worried about the OOT bags but was mainly worried about the many bottle of sunscreen i had...

also, it is a little bit of a clusterfuck (excuse my french) there...so we got all clustered right before the button(you have to press it-get red and you get checked, green-you go through)....as soon as steve pushed green, i pushed him through with ALL the bags with the stuff in it. that way if i pushed red, they would only search my small bags with out anything in it.

if steve had pressed red, and i pressed red (which wouldn't happen) i would have left the stuff with my parents right behind us in line.

never would have thought of that!

to be honestwith you girls though i'm not overly concerned...if i get questioned about it i'm just gonna be honest and say i'm giving them to my wedding guests...i mean i'll have my wedding dress right there, ya know?

i think it would be different if you had like 3000 bottles of sunscreen or something hehe but 40 or 50 i don't think would raise *too* many eyebrows, especially if they know you're going down there to get married.

  • 1 year later...

I brought 70 mini laterns in two packed boxes. Customs could tell I was a bride because I was holding my wedding dress bag. We told them they were wedding favors and described them. No problems at all! I think they are used to brides bringing stuff. I ended up taking about 20 lanterns back home and no problems again.

Good luck!

FYI gals, if you are bringing any lotion, gel, or cream-type items for your OOT bags, if you pack them in your carry-on's you are only allowed ONE quart-size zip-loc style clear baggie with bottles/containers sized 3.4oz or less, per person.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
