I am not going to discuss this any further. That word in reference to a woman is very offensive to me.

 

As far as the legal statement, I was referring to the original poster who has the recourse of pressing legal charges against the sister for false accusations, defamation of character, etc...

It's illegal to cuss in public. Or it is in Texas....it may just be a state law?

in the state of georgia, its illegal to swear in front of a corpse
in columbus georgia, its illegal to cuss on land line phones:
Sec. 14-49. Profanity over telephone. It shall be unlawful for any person in the operation of any telephone installed within the city, to make use of any vulgar vituperation or profane language into and over such telephone. (Code 1914, § 663)

in logan, utah, its illegal for a woman to use cuss words in public

in Prince William Country, Virginia:
Sec. 16-10. Abusive Language.
If any person shall, in the presence or hearing of another, curse or abuse such other person, or use any violent abusive language to such person concerning himself or any of his relations, or otherwise use such language, under circumstances reasonably calculated to provoke a breach of the peace, he shall be guilty of a Class 3 misdemeanor.

In Harker Heights, Texas, illegal to swear in church:

130.01 DISTURBING RELIGIOUS WORSHIP.

No person shall by loud or vociferous talking or swearing, or by any other noise, or in any other manner willfully disturb any congregation, or part of a congregation assembled for religious worship and conducting themselves in a lawful manner, nor shall any person willfully disturb in any manner any congregation assembled for the purpose of conducting or participating in a Sunday School or transacting any business relating to or in the interest of religious worship or of a Sunday School, and conducting them-selves in a lawful manner.


and this one kind of goes along with the tossed salad discussion... but in Champaign, Illinois, where the University of Illinois is located, "golden showers" are prohibited! (the actual law states something like you may not urinate in your neighbor's mouth--so obviously the lawmakers there arent aware of how a golden shower works)

hmmm martha, i couldnt find any laws saying its illegal to cuss in texas (in general texas, not just a specific town), can you help me out?

This is something I was told by an ex-bf/police officer. I have never Googled it, seeing as how he knows the law I just took his word for the truth. Let me see what I can find!

haha. well id believe it because its texas, but a quick google search yielded no good results for me so let me know what you find out. many states have OLD laws on the books about not cussing in public, but many of them have been repealed or overturned by city councils in individual townships or whatever... and many are just not enforced if they are still on the books.

Maura, I just called BF and her FI (he is a police officer also) because most laws are not written in layman terms and would be hard to Google.

 

Anyhow, yes, cussing/ vulgar language falls under the disorderly conduct law and is an arrestable offense. I didn't ask if that is just in Texas though. If you would like to know, I could call them back.

ETA: He also said if someone cusses at you in public and it offends you, they can be arrested....

I don't get all the Texas bashing around here?

haha thats too funny! i would love to see someone get arrested for cussing. have your friends ever arrested anyone for that? or had someone report to the police that they were offended by someone else cussing?

haha no im not bashing texas, i just meant texas is pretty proper with manners and stuff so it doesnt surprise me you can get arrested for cussing

oh! I'm sorry....We do have some strange laws here.

 

I didn't ask if anyone has ever had anyone arrested for cussing at them but I am sure he has arrested people in public for yelloung cuss words...probably just the drunks though!
