I just offically changed my name

Recommended Posts

YIKES!!! I was actually a little emotional over this. I've had the same name for over 35 years, I almost didn't want to change it. But I did. I actually moved my maiden name to a second middle name. So it's still there, but I don't have to use it unless I want to.

Anyway, for those of you in NY - if you live in Queens, you HAVE to go to the Jamaica office to do your name change. You can't mail it in or go to any other office. I waited on line for AN HOUR AND A HALF and then they almost gave me a hard time about the marriage certificate being in Spanish. Um, hello, this is QUEENS, NY - the most culturally diverse 514 square miles in the world (something like that.) SOMEONE here must be able to translate this thing. They had a supervisor do it. Oh, and I can read lips so I saw her saying behind the thick, bullet proof glass (yeah, welcome to Queens) that something was wrong on my marriage certificate. Nice, now I have to look into that. At least I'm done.

I called Brendan when I was done and told him I should have dragged his ass down there with me. Men suck that they don't have to deal with this stuff.

I feel ya Jen. I changed mine last month and it was a PIA. I could only imagine having to go to Queens. I had fun watching all the weird people at our SS office though.

I made Steve go with me because I didn't want to change my name but he was persistent. I did it to make him happy so I made him go through hell too. LOL

Congrats on the name change! I'm in the stages of changing my name on eveything & its been such a hassle. Calling all the credit card companies & every company wanting a different piece of info is sooo annoying. I have yet to do the impt things such as my license, ss card, or passport. I can only imagine what fun that will be!

And I definitely thank you for giving me the heads up as to what to expect in Queens! I dread going to the Jamaica office....sigh!

Men should be mandated to accompany us on any name-change trips that we have to make!

Just a tip, I believe the SS office opens at 7:00AM everyday and Wednesday night they're open until 7:00PM.

LOL!!!!! In Queens it was everyone and their 5 kids. YIKES!!!

Yes, I went with Queen of Queens just for you. And by the way, I was just thinkng of you. I'm watching the Mets game right now and there was a clip of Kevin James (who I know you LOVE) saying "Let's Go Mets" over and over and over, like a crazy man. He's sooo funny. Sorry to highjack my own thread - I always do that.

I know, I called Brendan my boyfriend the other day. I'm having a hard time remembering that he is actually my husband now.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
