I am way up here in Canada, so my input won't make much difference here, but one of the things I was looking at when booking was the airlines allowances. It was between AirTransat and Signature.

If we booked with Signature, we would be flying on Skyservice which meant that we each got one carry-on (11lbs max). My wedding dress would be considered a carry-on and we wouldn't be allowed a diaper bag for our son (he will be 16 months old, so he flys free).

Booking through AirTransat we get one carry-on (11lbs max), my dress is separate but free, diaper bag is free, and you can have a purse and laptop which are free as well. Then for checked baggage, you can also take a bag of sporting goods that doesn't get weighed and is free.

In the end we booked with AirTransat, which I was very happy with!

I think it depends on which airline you are travelling with. We flew with Skyservice and it was pretty inconsistent among our group as to what they considered carry on or not. They did not weigh my purse and it was very large and full of all sorts of things. I also had my daughter's wedding dress in a small carry on suitcase on wheels as a piece of carry on luggage.

Just as a fyi, we were over by about 8kgs and did not get charged extra either way. The bride and groom were over by about 20kgs and also did not get charged extra. I expected to pay but they never asked.

I am flying with air transat, so you think the dress and a purse will be ok? and for checked baggage, do you think snorkel gear will count as sporting goods? b/c we are bringing that too!

I think it depends on the airline, We flew Mexicana back to Chicago in early May, my husband and I only had one carry on each. Security was a joke, we had to do it to get to the gate, and then they re searched EVERYBODY at the gate before we could get on the plane, I have never had that happen to me.

Also if you can fly Mexicana do it, we got a meal and beverages with alcohol

& we were not charged, the plane was fairly new, on the way in we had AA and it was totally no frills!

Also when you leave give yourself ample time to get there and get through check in, it was a mad house for us.

  • 2 months later...

Hi all. Ok i have a dilemma. I am leavin Tuesday for my DW in Vegas. I am flying on jetboue-they offer no closets. They supposedly dont even have one. I HAVE to bring my carry on rolling bag..so that counts as one of the 2 allowed carry-ons. their policy is one carry on and one personal item(purse, laptop, briefcase, etc).

Will they let me bring a roll on and a big ole dress? I refuse o check either one b/c we connect hru JFK-could you imagine if god forbid they lost something? Id have a nervous breakdown!

So then I thought I woud ship it-well the 2 day express shipping is over 130.00-up to 147.00 on Fedex!

What did any of you do? Did yu bring a dress and a carry on bag?

Any advice today would be super appreciated!!

Thanks

Carry it on!

If it's in a bridal bag, they shouldn't hassle you. I had lots of people pay me special attention because I had the dress, so I would recommend it! LOL

I don't trust shipping, but then again, I'm a little paranoid!

Hm I dunno, I'd be too nervous to shiip it! I'd carry it on ORR you can pull a "Carly" and forget to bring it all together and have a family member bring it. blhahahahahahahahahahhhhahhahahah (sorry Car but that was a classic in my book)

I personally would carry it on. If anyone else has shipped their dress, I'm sure they'll post their advice on what they think. Good luck.

Thanks.....buy when yu carried it on-did you also have a carry on bag? See I am so paranoid I must bring all the essentials as carry on in case the idiots lose my checked bag-so everything important comes with me in the rolling bag.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
