How much is too much to ask your guests to pay?

We've had people complain it's expensive, we just smile and say that we understand if people can't afford to come and that we would love for everyone to be there, but we really do understand.

There are a couple of reason we choose this resort, one being that we've stayed in the chain before and had an AMAZING time and since having a DW is basically planning a vacation for everyone who comes, we didn't want to risk it with a resort we've never been to.

Usually, when people complain about the price we tell them everyting that is in cluded and they are usually impressed...ALL food, Drinks (including liquor), taxes, gratuities and even some excursions if you stay 3 or more nights.

Anyway, choose a place you love, people will complain no matter what!
We have also chose our resort to get married at because we have been there. We were very pleased with the resort and we didn't want to take a chance on a new resort when we were going to be having a group come along with us. If there were only going to be about 10 people going with us, than I would have considered another resort, but we are very excited about returning to the same resort, and so are the others that were there with us.

As for the prices, I believe it is $1750/pp for 1 week. It is an AI resort, so the price includes, airfare, accommodations, food, drinks and taxes. We didn't give any other options to those we invited, only the prices for the resort we are going to. It was discussed briefly, but we decided that if people want to stay elsewhere, they can, but they will be responsible for paying for their day pass. The resort we are staying at has 4 sections to it, so they could choose to stay in one of the other 3 sections. Also, the price that we got is a deal! Booking on your own, you are looking at $1700-1800/pp before taxes.

There's something to look into. Talk to a TA and see what they can do for group rates. Usually you only need 10 people to book to qualify for group rates. Actually, check with a few TA in office as well as online and see who gets you the best price. We did, and we took the online price down to our usual TA and they matched it!

Good luck, and I hope you find the perfect place for your wedding without compromising what you want and who you want there.

FI and I just had this conversation last week. This is the 2nd marriage for both of us. My first one I did what everyone else wanted and didn't get the wedding of my dreams. This time as long as we're both their with his 2 kids, that's all that matters to us.

However, we did poll family & friends to ask what time of the year would work best for them and everyone said - Pick a day, we'll be there.

We are looking at Cancun because its cheapest/easiest to fly into and then guests can stay wherever. The future in-laws have timeshares there so they'll probably get 1-2 rooms and have a bunch of people stay with them.

Believe me, I know what you are going through. You and I have the same taste in AI resorts! We are also looking at a little less than $200 per person per night. We looked at the Westin in PV and it is about $200 per ROOM per night. It's hard to justify that each person would eat & drink $100 worth of food make it equal. But an AI just seems so fun and relaxing. UGHH!

I dunno- I think I ate/drank $100 per day. If you think about it- our resort had pricings on their buffets (although I thought the only option was AI). Breakfast, lunch, dinnner, snacks, tons of drinks. It adds up and you EAT a ton more at an AI than you would if you were paying for it.

We spent $100 one night in a club on drinks. It went FAST too!

I think it depends on what you want and if your guests want to come to your hotel they will be willing to pay.

Ours is a fortune its working out at 3k a couple but that is for 14 nights, some are staying at a different hotel so that its cheaper but again that was their decision. We didn't go mega expensive we just like this hotel

So after a few suggestions I decided to "poll" my nearest and dearest which includes my sis who is a peace corps volunteer right now in Nicaragua. I mention this because the value of money has really changed for her and I mentioned what the quotes would be for 4 nts air/land etc expecting her to say WHAT?!! But she thought that wasn't that bad. (yay) * I also don't think she knows that we are paying for her because she is my MOH..

I also asked 2 other very dear people in my life and they also agreed that they would eat and drink enough to make SURE it was worth it. ha ha. In the end I have decided that we will go with gut instinct on what we see when we get there June 5th for a visit. I have loved all your input. It has been really helpful. I even made my dear love read some of them and he read the post where I said he was (annoying) for shooting down my dreams tulum idea... oops.gif

Thanks again

Danielle- yes it was the quote for Paradisus RM. I still have to see it but it has most everything I want in one place. It seems like the right vibe. Oh what do I know! I haven't even seen the place. ( can you tell i am driving myself slightly nuts?)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
