Hi there... I am new. This is my first post/thread.

My name is Lisa. My boyfriend Aaron and I are planning our wedding at Las Caletas on May 23, 2009.

We are decided on the venue and have proceeded with reserving the date.

But we are undecided on the resort. We are currently looking at the Velas Vallarta. Can anyone offer any insight? Have you stayed there?

What did you think?

Can you suggest anything in place of the Velas?

Thanks! I'm just concerned as it seems a little costly for what we'd be getting.
I've been trying to negotiate with the resort to reduce the cost for the guests due to the volume of the booking. Not sure if they'll bite.

Welcome, Lisa! I married at Las Caletas last June. We stayed at Dreams but several of our guests stayed at Velas Vallarta. We spent an afternoon there hanging with them.

The place is huge and beautifully decorated. I went to 2 rooms, one was a 1 bedroom and one was a 3 bedroom. The furnishings/decor was flawless and they even stock the kitchen with snacks. The balconies were really large too, it was like a really nice apartment. My favorite part was the pools and the lazy river, just awesome. To be honest the beach sucked, but all beaches in that area kind of suck...you have to go South (like towards Caletas) to get nicer beaches. It is pricey but unless you have big ocean swimming guests going, they will be impressed. I hear the food is excellent. We had a member of BDW marry there last year, search for her review & pics.

Dreams Vallarta is usually slightly cheaper (but not by much), and I highly recommend it. It's more intimate, the beach is better, and it's a Dreams property which means it's pretty damn wonderful :) If you search the site (above, right) or look in the PV section you'll find lots of info on PV hotels.

Happy planning!

Thanks Starchild! That's great.

My boyfriend is from Los Angeles as well. He moved to Canada last july.
We go back to LA often and I LOVE carne asada too! lol

we considered Dreams early on but the rates were too much for us. We went with the Barcelo instead- my parents always stay at Dreams PV so they were a little shaky on switching. They did and they liked the Barcelo. THey just don't serve the top shelf liquor like Dreams does and not as many A La Carte restaurants. They said they would return to Barcelo for a shorter stay- under 7, but would prefer Dreams if it were a longer stay for the mix of foods.

I stayed at Velas many moons ago when I was a teenager with my parents. I can't tell you much about the food or liquor, but the resort itself was beautiful! The lazy river was awesome & I remember the service being fantastic. (this all happened like 8 years ago so things may not still be the same!)

Congrats on your engagement & welcome though! I'm sure somebody will help you with some better information than I have! :)

Thanks for that!

I'm leaning towards ditching this idea as I think it's too costly for our guests and the resort hasn't been cooperative so far.

I stayed at Velas two years ago with FI. It was a very nice resort. The food was very good for an all-inclusive. The rooms were clean and nice. They do have a kitchen area which they stock with snacks & the fridge is stocked with beer, water, soda and milk. The grounds are beautiful.

They did have a good selection of beer/alcohol. We stayed last year at the Cozumel Palace and while we enjoyed the staff and service we received in Cozumel better, the food and drinks were much better at Velas.

We stayed one day there on February on our site visit, they offer a day pass and a hotel room for the day, the food and quality of the drinks/liquor is very very good, the best brands and the best quality. The service is awesome and the rooms are large and very comfy. Selma Vazquez is their Group Manager, are you working with her?

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
