Assistance from other SGOR Brides!!

Recommended Posts

Hi there! Hey, for all you SGOR brides, My travel agent mailed us all of our travel/booking info the other day.. I guess it's up to me to contact our WC her name is Darma? Then I guess we start playing phone tag? (because I work in a call centre and am hard to reach!/work shift work) How is/was your experience dealing with her?? I think her job will be easy, it's only the two of us coming down! Do we pick what day we get married? Will she book hair/make up for me?? Any info would help! Thanks!

I can't help you a whole lot, but I'll tell you what I do know!

I booked directly through Sandals on a Wednesday...Thursday night someone from the wedding department called me to tell me what documents I would need and when the soonest time I was I could get married (due to residency requirements). They asked what day, I told them and then they gave me the available times that day. After that I was transferred to another wedding planner who has been working on the more specific wedding details with me (Sharon).

I'm not sure about the hair and make up, but I'm pretty sure that has to be paid in full before the trip so I would think she could do that for you!

The trip booking (if you did a group thing with your travel agent) is separate from your wedding booking. At the end, you should have a trip booking number and a wedding booking number.

When you book your wedding, you will be assigned a wedding coordinator who will contact you fairly soon. Keep in mind that it will not be the coordinator that you will work with on your wedding day. It will be a Sandals "wedding coordinator" who is based out of Miami--she is really a salesperson for UVI Travel. I guess this is Sandals travel agency.

She will help you with all of your wedding details--and will order all of your selections. I'm actually looking forward to meeting my on-site coordinator because I think she will be waaayyyyy more flexible than Darma has been. Everything I've asked for either carries a large price tag or can't be amended in any way (menus, etc.). She's sweet as pie though and very responsive. Let me know if you need to know anything else.

All of my communication with my WC (Darma) has been done via email. Her signature says to allow 24-48 hours for a response, and that was the case on all but 2 occasions. She's been very helpful, BUT it's important to note that before bookings can be made for things like hair and make-up, they must be paid for in full. The same goes for any ceremony upgrades (upgraded flowers, bouquet, Preston Bailey, etc). We went to our TA to make payments for any extras and everything went through fine.

We booked our trip and did the prelim wedding stuff (picking date, time, etc.) through our TA. Our TA even took care of submitting our paperwork so our marriage documents could be drawn up.

Ok.. thanks for the info.. I'm Canadian by the way.. maybe things are handled a tad bit different depending on how/who you book your trip with. We booked through a travel agent here. She sent me a package and intinerary and the toll free number to call Darma. I guess I have to call and get the ball rolling. I thought that was a little strange, but, ok. Like I've mentioned before on the boards, we are eloping so there is very little to do. I've checked with some Canadian brides on other forums and they met their on-site wedding co-ordinator the day after they arrived at the hotel, and their wedding was pretty much the next day or so. They were also able to book the hair salon when they got there. ?? So all this paying for in-advance stuff is new to me!?? All we need from Canada for documentss (so I've heard) is just a notarized birth cert. which I'll have to order myself of course to the tune of $50.00. We are not wanting any upgrades, I'm bringing my own flowers, I pretty much know I want to get married on that pretty little private gazebo.. etc. So today is the first day all week I am off work at a decent time so I can call or try to get a hold of Darma. I'll keep you posted! Thanks for all your info!!!!!!

If it is any help at all, I get married a week from Sunday and just booked my hair appointment yesterday. It was not a problem at all. I am like you and just having a small ceremony and really did not want any extras. We are not even having it professionally photographed. I was going to and changed my mind. We were given this amazing carmera as an early wedding present and I love editing photos so my friend is gonna take all the pictures with it. I really want to keep things low key, fun yet memorable. ALso relaxed. I want us very relaxed! Anything I can help you with just let me know!! LOL. Since I am going soon I will try to get pics of the locations for you! I wish I would have seen more pictures. What catergory of room are you staying in? We are in the Rivera building.

I did not. I just had trouble spending that much money on something I was not 100% sure I wanted. I also just got an amazing camera that my friend is gonna use to take pictures of us with. Then I am going to edit them. I enjoy doing that! I hope I don't regret my decision! I will let you know how things turn out when I get home!

We are going with the Tropical Passion Photo Package - it's the middle of the road one. We had specific things we wanted photo wise, and this package has what we want. My parents splurged on Preston Bailey, we splurged on photos.

Yay.. my travel agent got a hold of Darma and our wedding is booked! Now.. they want to know if I want any upgrades, book salon etc. No problem... all I want is my hair done. No other extras. We are in a butler/expensive room so we get all the booze/reservations pampering already. I'm very stuck on the photos.

I am ok with spending $355 (ouch) for the 18 pics... BUT I want them on disc instead of the 5x7 prints. Do you think this is possiblehuh.gif

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
