Hey Windsor/London/T.O Girls - Flying from Detroit is about 400-500 dollars. The only direct flight from Detroit is with Northwest and right now it is about 475 USD. My friends in Toronto can fly WestJet of Air Jamaica direct to MBJ for about 600 CDN. Exchange rate is basically par for comparison sake so you could save anywhere from $100-200 depending which airline. We lucked out and booked a flight with Spirit for 355 USD out of Detroit but there was one stop in Florida. I guess I can't have the cake and eat it too...

JW117 - read my earlier post reply to dinzers question. Hopefully that helps you decide which resort to go with...

Hi There!!

I'm super new too this whole thing as well...My fiance and I stayed at the Gran Bahia last year, and it was absolutely amazing. The people, the food, the resort...PERFECT!! It was actually where we wanted to get married, but it was just too expensive for the amount of people attending. I LOVED it there!!!

See...for us..the GBP is almost $250 cheaper than the ROR. As prev mentioned, we want to do our wedding the last wk of May 2009. I've tried to go back to our TA to negotiate, but she says she cant budge. She was able to drop the deposit to $200 per person. I dunno...this is soooo hard and I feel like we're running out of time!

Do you gals think $1700 per adult guest is too high for the ROR?

Don't worry dinzers. Take your time, make the right decision so that you won't regret a thing. I know it's tough but, trust me, the right choice will come.

Does the $1700 include the flight, transfer and hotel? If so, I think that's reasonable from Toronto - if it was for family or a good friend, I would spend that.

I guess you almost have to come to terms with your expectations. Choosing a destination wedding we knew not everybody would come and we were ok with that. We understood that cost, vacation time, personal conflicts might be an issue so we set the expectation that as long as our immediate family was there, we'd be ok. Everything else is a bonus.

I don't think that is too bad. Maybe talk to some of the girls that are getting married in May 09 or 08 and see what they paid.
You should choose a resort that you are going to be happy with and if that takes extra time so be it. If guests want to come, they will come no matter where you choose.
If you are worried about a wedding date, you could go to the Riu site and request the date. They hold it for up to 3 months and if your rooms are not booked by then they release it. That way if you chose ROR you would have your date :). This is what I did due to waiting for the US rates.
Just a thought.

the price does include everything (transfer too). i'm confident that everybody that said they want to come, will even if the price is higher. its the families that i'm worried about. $250 for 4 ppl adds up.

I'm gonna take another wk to think it all over...in the meantime, i'll take a look at the date setting thing chiklet! thanks again!

:)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
