Liquid Diets.....Anybody tried one?

Recommended Posts

my friend Jen just did this for 2 weeks - she lost 12lbs but gained 10lbs back after she started eating again and she eats really healthy. she did it mostly just to detox b/c she has taken a lot of antibiotics this past year. this cleanse is awesome for internal cleansing and detox but it is not really for prolonged weight loss

I have seen this...and although Im sure it provides healthy benefits, it just lasts for too long. I like life and going out, etc. you would basically have to stay away from anywhere with food for 18 days and that would be hard.

I have nothing against cleanses though, ive done a couple recommended from my health food store. Im just trying to find one that better suits my needs and is short term.

Obviously I'm biased, but people deprive themselves of health everyday by eating too much high fructose corn syrup, caffeine, fat, and the list goes on.

The cleanse has outstanding health benefits but again, I don't suggest using it as a diet.
I AM SO WITH YOU ON THIS!!!! People have very negative ideas about fasting becuase it is "not good for your body" but what's the diffedrence between depriving your body of all the tooxins found in everyday food and comsuming super processed food?

I did the master cleanse in college for about 10 days and lost the same number of pounds. I have to say it is not for everyone. It's not for me anymore either. I tried it again 2 years ago and I broke out in a terrible rash all over my face. I think it is safe, but you have to make the call if it is the right choice for you. The weight will come back just as fast as it left if you do not change your regular habits. Good luck!!!

Here's my two cents worth, our bodies are created to do exactly what this cleanse is suppose to do for you. Nature gave us all of the right devises in order to keep our body cleansed of all the toxins. It's much smarter than we think. Our system comes with many safety nets and when it encounters such toxins, it acts to rid them from the body. It accomplishes this task through metabolization, through urination, through sweating, through vomiting, through induction of the Number Two factor, and even through exhalation (via the lungs). The intestines will empty themselves completely if you eat a high-fiber diet.

I recently saw a report by a popular doctor (Dr. Mehmet Oz, from Oprah) who did such an experiment, with the premise “Does internal cleansing work?†They took a group of young women (after binging and partying) and separated them into 2 groups; one the cleansing group, the other, the eating “normally†group. Both groups were tested before and after the cleansing program. After the studying the data the researchers saw NO difference in the liverâ€s ability to clean and rid the body of toxins. Even the doctor was surprised by the results.

When it comes to detoxing and cleansing, turns out, our bodies (namely our livers and kidneys) know what to do and how to do it, for what it's worth:)

GOOD LORD!!!!

DON'T DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !

I tried it and it was the worst thing ever. I have never felt so sad and empty in my life. Our bodies were designed to eat and get rid of waste on their own. Not eating is soo unnatural and unhealthy no matter how you spin it.

I tried this for 5 days and it was HELL. I broke down on the 5th day and ate a strawberry...best thing I have ever tasted in my life.

I hear you Nikki, good points.

Cleansing is totally a mental feat, and it isn't for everyone. With the master cleanse if done right you aren't physically hungry. Mentally, it's a trip! Besides realizing how much food runs your life and is advertised like crazy, your senses sharpen. Sight, hearing, smell, etc. all improve. You have energy like you haven't felt in years. People have cured themselves of serious illnesses through internal cleansing so it's cool to say it's not for you but don't write it off completely for everyone.

I agree the body can cleanse itself in theory, but that assumes a particular lifestyle that many people don't lead, so cleanses can be a starting point on the road to wellness. How many of us eat foods made with preservatives & other synthetics? This kind of stuff is toxic (i.e. causes cellular mutation i.e. disease) and does build up in our bodies. Some of these ingredients weren't in our food sources 50 years ago and our bodies haven't evolved that much that fast imo.

I'm curious as to what cleanse was featured on Oprah? Not that I don't believe the study, just curious as there are many types of cleanses and results.

Don't mean to be preachy because I am no example of health, just sharing what I think I've learned over the years. If it isn't for you it isn't for you, but it may be for someone else :)

Those are really good points Jamie, I would love to do a cleanse, because I think it would be good for my body to just clean out and also try to eliminate the want for certain foods. And I love the idea of the amount of energy that you gain while doing it. I'm afraid I would try it for a couple of days and wouldn't be able to keep going. If I even made it a couple of days, I could totally see myself caving after like 12 hours!

robin quivers from the howard stern show did this. she lost a HUGE amount of weight, and has kept it off, but she had people making this lemonade and other food for her. she also became a vegan after this, so that was part of the reason that her weight stayed off. she was also doing coffee enemas - yes, putting coffee up her butt - to continue cleansing.

i firmly believe that the only way to keep weight off is by changing your lifestyle. nothing is permanent if you keep doing what you've been doing.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
