Bone China is a product of a technique perfected in England to add bone ash of animals to the clay, resulting in delicate looking but very strong china. Sometimes, it does not carry the label “bone china†but it can be easily recognized as it has more transluency and whiteness than normal porcelain.

How it’s made

Calcined bone ash makes up about 50% by weight of the final body recipe. It is produced from animal bone, which is first processed to remove any
adhering meat which is generally sold as pet food. The bone is then treated to remove glue, which is processed and upgraded for use in normal applications where glue is used, and also for the sizing of expensive paper.
The raw bone which is left after the meat and glue have been extracted is then heated to about 1000 C at which temperature any residual organic material is burned off and the structure of the bone is changed to form suitable for the manufacture of bone china.
It is then finally ground with water before being added to clay."

It is something still done? From the little googling I did, it sounded like it was in antique china.

I don't want to drink out of a tea cup made out of animal bones. I'm not registering for China. I have no interest in owning it.

The big difference to me is that those objects have a function. China is not necessary & there are so many other ways to make a plate.

I'm not vegan, but I do believe in treating animals right. Now that I know the animals are not slaughtered just for plates, I don't think it's a bad practice. But, I do think it's gross. I don't like the idea of drinking out of a cup made from a bone.

This is true, but there are also alternatives for everything. So the choice is there.

However, it is very difficult to move towared having animal free products but every little bit helps.

I collect tea cups...yucky...this will not go over well at my next tea party. And yes, I really do mean my next tea party. I love tea!

my friend has tons of tea cups she inherited from her grandma. It's so funny because she lives in a little grad student duplex & would not be having formal dinner parties. So we had a party where everyone took shots out of tea cups.

      Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!

      Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else.
