And, I agree, start w/ David's bridal b/c they have a lot of sizes and then check out smaller shops. Good luck!

Just like everyone else said try the bigger shops (David's, Alfred Angelo, etc. first because they have lot of sizes AND they are affordable). Then if you don't find anything I would call the smaller shops, make appointments and tell them on the phone your street size - ask them to go through their dresses and pull out all the ones they think will work ahead of time. This is supposed to be about you and feeling great - so love who you are and make sure the stores cater to you and not the reverse!

I was dreading it at first too, but then once I started going I couldn't stop, I went to 3 different stores twice each! I ordered a dress of of ebay, but ended up going back to the first store and buying another dress.

Davids was good because they do have a ton of options in different sizes. I am a street size 18, so when I went I grabbed dresses that were a couple sizes smaller and a couple sizes bigger, assuming that they didn't have it in my actual size, because they can order them for you.

the smaller shops had less selection in larger sizes, but they you can still try the dress on, especially if it has a corset back, you can get a good idea of what it will look like.

It's a lot of fun, I actually wish I could still go try on dresses just for fun!

I'm so glad to see this thread on plus size wedding dress's. I think I will be ordering from Davids's. My concern is I'm in Canada and David's is in USA. I can't seem to find a large store that carries a large selection like David's does here in Canada. The selection gets even harder when your plus size is in the 20's too !!!!

Are you anywhere near Toronto? I see you are in Ontario, but what is your closest major city?

I got my dress at David's Bridal, and actually ended up buying a size 14, since it has the corset back, I can adjust it as I lose weight. From the hips down there is loads of room, and I liked the way the lacing is more spread out on the back so you can see the different colored fabric detail. When you get a larger size and pull the laces tight, there's not much point to having it be a different color. (Well this is how I feel about MY dress, on ME, maybe not everyones cup of tea!)

The bodice gives you great curves.

Hope this helps!
Oh and BTW, I'm standing on the raised platform and need major hemming to be done! I wish I was as tall as I looked in these pics!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
