Catholic vows on the beach?

I'm dealing with the same issues/thoughts on the Catholic wedding.

 

So will you have a Catholic wedding in the US?

 

I'm still keeping my options open to finding a Catholic Church to get married in in the Riviera Maya area (problem is I'm having a hard time finding these churches except for the few that are on existing resorts). I haven't been able to figure out if this is legit, but I hope I can do a legal civil wedding in the states and simply a Catholic wedding in Mexico. With that as the case, I'm thinking that I won't need to do the blood tests and legal paperwork (but certainly yes, the Catholic paperwork).

 

If all else fails, we will do Catholic and legal wedding in the US and stage something symbolic yet still religious at the resort/beach. Of course, my mother is balking at this idea but....

 

So I agree, this is challenging! If anyone has any insight I would love to hear about it. I've heard that Ajua Weddings has some expertise in wedding planning, particularly Catholic weddings. I might enlist in their services but honestly have no idea what they charge for their wedding coordination fees.

hi johanna, another member, monika (adamsgrrl) got married in a catholic church in RM. monika is also from chicago so i know she would be happy to help you with that. i am doing exactly what your idea is -- a legal civil ceremony here and then the "legal" catholic wedding in mexico. and yes you wont have to do the bloodwork and all that junk to make it legal in mexico. but let me tell you that the catholic paperwork is no picnic! smile27.gif

Hello Leia, this may sound a bit nuts, but we are in a country that's very flexible on many things, and it is quite different from the U.S., where standards are all set. It may sound wild, but for an extra fee for outstanding expenditures, a small-town catholic priest may in the area of Los Cabos may want to consider marrying you both on the beach. don't get me wrong, I'm not talking about a hand out or anything beneath the table, but going out would mean greater expenses for him as well. Though your WC might not like the idea because this would obviously mean investing at least a day's worth of traversing small town nearby. It would cost you extra to pay the WC, of course.

FI and I are both Catholic and even though we are getting married in Mexico we definitely wanted to be married in the Catholic Church. We are, however, legally getting married either before or after we get back from Mexico. The church ceremony is much more important to us than the legal ceremony anyway. We are getting married at a church in Cancun. We did look at some other churches (others in Cancun, Playa del Carmen and Puerto Aventuras) while we were there on a site visit. I believe I still have pictures of them all if you are interested. Just let me know.

Hi Johanna! I just had a Catholic Wedding in this adorable church in Playa del Carmen and then had my reception at The Royal Playa del Carmen. We ran into the same issues everyone else did but my fiance (now husband) didn't like the idea of having multiple ceremonies. (symbolic and "real") So we had the ceremony at the church and the reception at the beach.

It worked out really well because we ended up having a procession with all our guests down 5th Avenue to the reception which was so fun!

My mom was in direct contact with the church so you really don't need a planner to do it. I will be posting my pictures soon so you can see what the church looks like. Its very charming!!

      Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!

      Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations.
