just remember not to use that strainer for spaghetti wink.gif
LOL ~ Martin said we should use it when we have to strain the cranberries out of the homemade liqueur we're making. Ewwww. Oh, and I just had spaghetti for dinner - don't worry, that strainer is staying FARRR away from the kitchen!! wink.gif

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I wonder when this thing is gonna pass. I took one of the pain meds and I can still feel a lot of discomfort. Get out of there, you!!! Not only am I loopy from the drug but I'm feeling sooo easily distracted right now. I'm supposed to be reading something for American Lit. but playing on the computer seems so much more fun right now. popcorn.gif
Also, I looked up the other med I'm supposed to be taking - Flomax - and it's used to treat male prostate problems. It says if you experience an erection for more than 4 hours call your doctor - I think I'd be calling Maury if that happened! lol On a serious note though, it says if you're allergic to sulfa drugs (I am) that you might have a reaction to this also. Not sure if I should go ahead and take it or wait until tomorrow to call the doctor's office...
OMG Jaime!!!!
I can TOTALLY 100% relate!
I have had 13 (count 'em 13!!!) kidney stones over the years. I have gotten them ssoo often that I know when I have one and go right to the doctor for a shot and then have to just wait it out b/c they are usually small enough not to require being surgically broken up (only had to have that once).
My kidney stones have all been calcium oxilates.
The doctor told me those types of stones form from certain things we eat drink, for the most part. So, I had to cut out soda, iced tea (not hot, only iced), peanuts, greens (kale, collards, turnips, etc) ... and stop drinking water from the tap when I lived in WV (the water was high in calcium).
When I changed those things, I didn't have any issues.
Have only had 1 in the past 8 years -- and that was actually just a few months ago -- but it passed on its own in a few days with some pain medicine to get me through. And, I eat greens all the time now.
Clear indicators are sharp pains in the lower right side of your back, and in the worst cases, naseau.
I always have to strain my pee during a kidney stone spell too. I have a hugely funny story about my MOH's hubby dipping his hand into the toilet to get out my stone once it passed one weekend b/c I hadn't strained ... and since my pee was clear he didn't realize I had peed in the toilet. He freaked out when I was like "WTF are you doing?!"
Anyway ... boy am I rambling ... but it's important to catch it in the strainer so they can see what type of stone it is. That way they can tell you if, like me, you need to avid certain foods or what is best for you to not get another.
GOOD LUCK! Any questions, just ask! I've been there more times than I'd like to count!
lol, WOW Tami! That is funny about your MOH's DH fishing out your stone. rofl.gif
I am almost certain it's from taking extra calcium & vitamin C supplements. I was doing this because I had been sick for a long time and I was trying to boost my immune system. Sheesh, see where being healthy got me?!? cheesy.gif
My Grandfather also got them when he took Calcium supplements. He hasn't taken them since and has been kidney stone free thewave.gif
No more Cal/Mag supplements for Jaime! sad.gif
Thanks for sharing your story :)
Well at least you know you aren't crazy, right? And how much of med school did the doctors at that other joint sleep through? Google can probably diagnose better than them, fu@kers!
It's uncomfortable but count your lucky stars that is easy to fix. Now drink lots of water and get rid of that sucker!
Know what my doc used to recommend to help pass the stones?
BEER!!!!
No joke.
He told me it's the only time h would ever recommend taking a pain med and rinking alcohol ... but he says the beer helps you pee and pass!
It's true!!!! And it works!!!
You know what, that's the 2nd time I've heard that! The other time was from a friend of a friend who gets them constantly. I can't believe a doctor would actually recommend taking pain meds w/beer. WEIRD. I don't really like it but it might be worth a shot... So what's the prescription for beer? lol
Btw, has anyone else ever taken this Flomax stuff? Side effects listed can be stuffy/runny nose and BOY did I ever wake up with both of these! I can't stop stuff from coming out! I can't find on the net how long these side effects should last (Dr. prescribed (1) .4mg pill @ night). If there are any nurses out there reading this I'd love to hear your input! I took Claritin this morning to see if that would help at all cause it feels just like bad allergies.
Oh hey, Tami - I have another question for you: does the actual passing (i.e. peeing out) of the stone hurt bad? The doc told me that the worst should be over but I would think passing the stone would be the worst part. huh.gif It's definitely still in there, I can feel it deep down on the right side of my lower back/abdomen.
P.S. - I had a dream that it came out and it was the size of a prune! LOL
So today I will go in for a CT scan so they can take a look around and see what's going on. I'm getting nervous about this. It doesn't feel like the stone has moved at all this week - it's been stuck in the same place for at least 3 wks. now. sad.gif I tried driving out to school on Tuesday (we had Monday off thank goodness) but I felt really loopy on the drive out there and by the time I got near the campus (30 min drive) I had to call Martin crying because it hurt so bad. I had taken the Naproxen but it wasn't doing anything at all so I had to come home and take the Vicodin. I've emailed all my teachers and luckily they seem to understand but I've already missed 2 quizzes and it's only the 2nd week. This will be my 3rd day staying home. The pain is fine as long as I lay down (did that all day yesterday) but as soon as I get up and start moving around or sit up straight for a long period of time it gets really achy.
I hope it's not stuck...
Or that it's something worse...
Ugh, ok I'm letting my imagination get the best of me.
    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
