cake tasting

Recommended Posts

Has anyone ever had to pay for a cake tasting? I'm staring to get really annoyed. My WC said that the cake vendor wants me to pick three cakes, fillings, and frosting flavors to sample. And then I have to pay $15 for a minimum of three cakes to sample. I really think this is BULLSHIT! How am I supposed to know what flavors to sample. Isn't that what the tasting is for? I always thought they would have a bunch of different cakes, fillings, and icings to choose from. That we could mix and match and taste everything. Or have I been watching too many wedding shows? I'm really getting sick of people trying to nickel and dime us. For a 50 person cake they already want $400. Why should we give them a penny more? I'm sorry that I'm venting, but nothing seems to be going right lately. I'm even considering firing our WC. That's a whole other thread.

My resort doesn't do free cake tastings either. If we do request one, we will have to pay for it. I believe it's for the inconvenience of having the baker create sample cakes, since it's not like they keep on hand.

I'm not sure what the norm is, but I personally don't think $15 is unreasonable to sample three cakes. I have a feeling they charge more than that at Sandals!

Personally, I think that it is ridiculous to charge for a cake tasting! Especially when you are already paying them a big chunk of money for your wedding cake. We actually got ALL of our tastings for free - Dinner Tasting, Wine Tasting, as well as a Cake Tasting. Hmmm...maybe I just took all of the free tastings for granted?? I am curious to know if anyone else had to pay....

I think its disgusting. I never charge people to taste my cake, I just make them a few cupcakes so they know what they taste like.

I think you should look for another bakery, this one does not seem to be a good one in my opinion. They are in it for the money and that is all.

Daayum! well, ok then! Well, it does suck. When we heard we'd have to pay for a tasting, we decided we didn't need one. I'm still undecided about whether to use the "free" cake included in the package or upgrade. (These resorts sure do nickel and dime you for EVERYTHING!!)

I just re-read your original post and I do think that if you're going to come out of your pocket for a $400 cake, they should just give you a tasting for free!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
