When To Send STD's & Invitations?

Recommended Posts

I'm sure this has been asked tons of times, but I did a search and can't find it.

What timeline do I use to send things out? We're working on design and such and I just want to be able to send them out with PLENTY of notice for those with budgets and demanding schedules to able to attend. Ideally, I'd really love to give them a full year. Thats what I would need personally.

We plan to send out postcards periodically..maybe every 3 months leading up to the wedding. Just fun little things that will serve as reminders. Sunglasses, sunblock, visors, that sort of thing. But need to know when to send the formal stuff.

I mailed my STD's out almost a year in advance. I wanted our guests to have time to plan and save to go to Mexico. I did the Boarding pass STD's with all the dates, travel agent info, passport infor, website info.

I plan on doing a more formal invitationa a couple of months before the wedding and sending out invites for our AHR at the same time.

Here is what I did for mine...

I will be mailing my STD's hopefully next week for my April wedding (would have sent them sooner but I needed the bling first!). I have asked for a tentative RSVP just so we know how to budget and plan and then after christmas I will send the formal invite asking for an official RSVP (for wedding - including flight number, date of arrival, and number of guests, for the welcome dinner (dinner options), and if we decide to do a group tour). I will ask for the RSVP to be back by the beginning of Feb, 8 weeks in advance

We're getting married in April 2008.

I mailed our STD postcards in May 2007 and directed people to our website.

I've sent out email "newsletters" every month or so with updates and --again-- directing them to our website where all the latest info is.

We're mailing the formal invitations in early October. We're doing it this early b/c our TA needs to give the resort a final head count by mid-January (90 days prior) and b/c we can't pick our reception location until we know how many people will be coming. So, we're asking for RSVP's by November 30 so we don't have people forgetting during the December holidays. Then, I'll use the 2-weeks in early January to follow-up with the hoards of people who likely never sent the RSVP back to us.

I sent out STD's 10 months before the wedding, with an RSVP date of October 31st because we need to know how many hotel rooms we need by November 15th. I figured that would give us 2 weeks to make calls/send emails to the people who havent responded.

I am planning on sending out formal invites in February, but everyone will hopefully be booked by then.

After that, I thought I would send out a "can't wait to see you at the wedding" letter about 2 or 3 weeks before everyone heads to Mexico.

I just sent out STD's early Sept (8 months). for my May 5th wedding. I plan on mailing invitations mid January mith an RSVP for March 15th? I've seen lots of brides on here with an "official count" months before their wedding, I just hope people are that good at RSVPing for me. I worry about that a lot!! I have no idea how many people are coming! But I guess if people are going to make it to a DW they will be good about letting you know? I too like the idea of a postcard "reminder", good idea!

Is anyone including any info with the formal invites, or just the invitation and response card?

Monica

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
