Oh, that is what I was afraid of...how annoying. Thanks for the info Brittney!

Hi girls,

I'm stuck with a 12 noon ceremony. Any ideas on what I can do after the ceremony? Does anyone know if the Riu has some sort of lunch option?

Just a thought...I have a friend who got married at an AI. She said that she was very upset that she paid $10/person for an open bar and their was a resort bar a few steps away. All her guests stayed at the resort so they could have drank for free anyway!

I have the same problem and I'm so upset about it. It was the only time left on the day I wanted and I thought you could do an afternoon reception, but found out later you cannot. Chandlyn said the only reception availability is at 6:30. I'm just going to tell my guests to go back to enjoying their vacations or to come hang out at a bar with us. If you think of anything else, please let me know!
I'm not paying for open bar after the ceremony, Chandlyn said they will bring rum punch out to the beach. But I am paying for open bar for dinner because there is no bar near the Plantation open at dinnertime.

We opted not to do the open bar at all. We figure our guests will be okay for 2 hours without beer or liquor. There will be time right after the ceremony for them to go to the bar, and then we have the disco after would that includes the bar. I just think that is a lot of money to pay at an AI.

Hi ladies!

Whew I just got through reading ALLLLL the posts in this thread and found a LOT of helpful information, so thank you all very much!!

Mo - you are EXTREMELY organized and have thought of every detail! And you're getting married on my birthday! What a great day! wink.gif

Well I have been planning my Riu Ocho Rios wedding since March when I finalized the quotes for the trip! I recently "re-found" this forum thanks to Lizz on the brides.com forum!

We currently have 40 people joining us in Jamaica for our wedding! We are in Canada and my FI is from the East coast whereas I live in Alberta and have family all over Western Canada. So his family is leaving from an Eastern departure city (probably Halifax, maybe Fredericton), we're leaving from Calgary, some of my family members are leaving from Vancouver, and I have one relative flying in from the US and one from Europe! Craziness! The coordination of the flights has been my major headache, as the Riu Ocho Rios is exclusive to only one Canadian tour provider, Sunquest, and they canceled the flight for our Eastern guests for the original week that I wanted!! GRRR! So I moved everything to the following week. That was not fun.

But anyway, we are settled and happy with our Feb 12th wedding date. Most guests are pleased they will be there over the Valentine's Day week so they can have a romantic vacation away. It worked out well and I am getting very excited!! :)

We went with just the basic package and are adding on extras. My ceremony is at 4PM at the beach gazebo, and I love the blue upgraded decorations Chandlyn sent me, so I am upgrading:

The steel band will play for our ceremony.

We are going with the free semi-private dinner at Mammee Bay, and have booked the disco from 9 to 11.

And that's pretty much all I have figured! :)

I am going to do travel mugs as favours and fill them with an aloe vera gel, SPF lip balm, and something else which I havent decided yet, but it will probably have to be small. I am not sure how to give these out but I will have to give them out THERE since so many people are traveling on different flights and we are all meeting up there.

I have my bridesmaids dresses already, the groomsmen outfits are almost done, my honey has his outfit already, and I just bought my dress! So YAY!jiggy.gif

What else am I forgetting? I feel like there's still so much more to be done!

JMHEIN - I am getting married just a few days after you, 2.15.08. We are also getting married at the beach gazebo. I reserved the Plantation because I think we'll have over 50 & I'm doing the disco from 9-11. I really didn't pick a package yet - I thought I was going to get the Caprice just cuz it accomodates the ceremony set up up to 80 people. Do I have to confirm the package w/ Chandlyn before I get there?? I was hoping I could decide when we actually sit down so I could figure out what would be the cheapest. Also, I'm still confused on how many people at a table for the Plantation. Chandlyn told me 6 and other people on the post have said 8. One other thing, my rehearsal is at 6 on Thursday, (the night before). I was thinking we could all go to one of the buffets afterwards. I was going to have everybody come - sort of like a welcome dinner but I guess that won't work if I have too many people. Hhmmm... I'll have to figure that out. Otherwise, we could all just go to one of the bars to hang out. I'd hate to pay for a private thing when it is all inclusive and I'll have to pay per person for open bar during dinner the following night. Sorry so long - any suggestions??

Hey Chicago!

Cool, maybe we'll see you there! We will be there from Feb 9th - 16th I believe!

You can definitely wait until you sit down with Chandlyn to choose everything, I think that's the way she likes to do things actually!

I can't answer you about the Plantation as I have no idea either!

I think after your rehearsal just go to one of the bars and hang out!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
