You know what's funny, my original wedding date at the Riu was February 6th!! But we have guests flying out of Calgary as well as we WERE going to have my fiance's family flying out of Halifax because they live in New Brunswick... anyway, Sunquest CANCELLED that flight out of Halifax so we had to move everyone to the NEXT week in the hopes that we could all fly out of places near us. Then Sunquest AGAIN cancelled the new flight but I wasnt about to reschedule the wedding a 2nd time so now the East coast guests will have to fly out of Toronto... Bit of a long story there, sorry! Anyway, that would be very neat if you will still be at the resort when we arrive!! I live in Grande Prairie, where are you?
hehehe it was for you!! We are flying out of Vancouver January 26. Some of our guest are coming out a week before the actual wedding week. We wanted to go down early to decide on the last minute details so we weren't doing that while our guests are there. We leave Saturday Feb 9th What day do you arrive to Jamaica? We might actually get to meet. I wonder if our guests will be on the same flight. That would explain why the flight is just about sold out already. I know it picks up in Vancouver then does a stop off in Calgary to pick up you Albertans, then off to Jamaica!!

Well THAT didn't go well at all! This is what I got from Michael (in bold and in red):

Please note that no other professional photographer or videographer (neither from Jamaica nor any other part in the world) is allowed to work on the property due to the contract I have with RIU as a seperate company - every violation of this issue is not permitted and the outside photographers/videographers can & will be removed from the wedding site after identified. The hotel and the PHOTOSHOP are monitoring that closely together and some outside photographers/ videographers have already been removed. Pictures have been taken of them so that they are known as Professionals already

But I did get written permission from the Riu. ANy ideas of what my next step should be??

Did you send him the email from the hotel saying you got permission? I would send that to him. You shouldn't have to pay $200.00. You could just tell him it is a friend of yours offering to do it for free. They can't take away pictures and cameras or they would be taking everyones cameras. Think of how many guests will be snapping pictures. He doesn't need to know you are paying for it.

I am bringing my own phototgrapher. I am paying Michael $150 and having him do my videography. This did not bother me at all because I put myself in his shoes. He probably does all of his business with Riu Ocho Rios. That is why he put a contract in place with the resort. Anytime someone brings in their own photographer, it affects him. I did not want to screw anyone over by bringing my own photographer. He is just trying to earn a living. Now I do not agree with the way he handles things if you do not negotiate. I think it is very unprofessional.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
