Dreams Riviera Cancun - Brides post here (new thread)

I agree with Roxmysox - it is what you make of it. My fiance and I went down for a few days and we weren't bored at all. We met plenty of people our age and spent time at Desire's and in the lobby bar. There was a comedian one night and live music the first night. Also there was a band on the beach but it was cut short since the wedding on the beach complained about the band interfering with their dj. Good for the wedding because I was about to complain for them hahaha!

We are planning to take a bus into Playa (you could also do Cancun) one night. That might be an option for you ladies who are worried about the nightlife. Both Cancun and Playa are short drives away and you can arrange for private transportation for your group. We're looking at Blue Parrot Beach Club in Playa. I've also heard that cancun discounts does a bar crawl for groups in Cancun. I'd look into that for one night and then leave it open to whoever in the group wants to go.

Just a thought :)

We got two cds of steel drum music, wedding march, over the rainbow, the way you look tonight, etc. so recognizable songs but with no lyrics and a beachy mood - I think anyway

Good luck.

As far as nightlife I didnt even bother checking pre-making our decision, in my experience the entertainment at most resorts is just average. Last time my FH and I stayed south of Playa del Carmen and did two nights in Playa partying it up and did a dinner and party boat in Cancun on another night. DRC is way more central, really its not a big deal at all, I still plan to do atleast one night in each (Playa and Cancun with our guests), no resort will be able to match the vibe of going to a hopping bar on the beach, your true partiers will leave the resort regardless, and once you split the cab fare 4 or 5 ways, its only like 5 bucks they wont even blink at that. My two cents.

Nikkimadril-

I can totally relate. Its been the same frustation with me. But if it helps in your decision making.. i posted something about this a while ago- I will recap. I was interested in the wine room also as i have a small group 10-15 people, and at first Ana's email stated directly there is no extra charge for the wine room, except you must spend minimum of 60$ on upgraded wine. I thought how great! Its sort of private without having to pay for a full on private reception since our group is so small. I told her to book it. She emails back a week later and says "oh i just want to make sure you understand that the minimum wine purchases you have to make goes according to how many guests you have in the party- for example 10 guests=300$ minimum in upgraded wine." "More will need to be spent the larger the group gets"

I was extremely frustrated as the communication is so spotty and it seems like alot of us get false or half information, and then when it comes down to it there are so many other restrictions in the fine print. Its upsetting =(

However, the resort seems to be immaculate and beautiful, and most brides on here here say Ana somehow makes it happen when you finally get there.. so we'll just have to hold on to that hope that everything will work out! Good luck

I thought the closer you got to your wedding, the quicker she would be responding? I'm going to try calling her today, but I wanted to reserve the wine room and now I'm not so sure. You have to buy at least $40 in upgraded wine per couple? I don't want to bother with the wine room if it's going to cost $300 or $400 - still seems ridiculous to me for an all-inclusive resort and I doubt everyone would want to drink all that wine anyway.

I'm trying to be calm but my wedding is in two months. I know destination weddings are different and hopefully everything will be worked out once we get there, but it's hard.

Can someone please help me!!! I am trying to understand the contract for the Dreams Ultimate Wedding Package. So 20 people are included in the package....and you pay $2760 for this package. Now according to the contract any additional guests for cocktail hour is $ 26 usd + 10 % + 15 % per person which is about $33.00 and for the reception its $ 48 USD + 15 % + 10 % per person which is about $61.00 per person. SO that’s a TOTAL OF $94.00 per person!!! And that doesn't even included the additional bottles of Champagne which is $ 38 usd + 15% service +10% tax per bottle!!! Now am I reading this wrong or is it really $94 a per person for any additional guest over the 20 included?!?! There is such a language barrier, lack of response and I have a hard time getting straight answers. If it is it is, but I just want to try and understand. And I will definitely be negotiating for we have 95 people already booked with another 15-20 still anticipated to book. And wedding is November 13, 2010. ANYONE WHO KNOWS PLEASE JUST LET ME KNOW.......MUCH APPRECIATE!!! :-)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
