I booked with Romantic Planet too and that's pretty much how my deal went down.

They originally asked for us to put down deposits for ppl we "thought" were coming. I did think this was ridiculous since I hadn't even sent out STDs yet! Against my better judgement, I put down 20 deposits ($3000) for a package with Signature Vacations. Found out later that this package didn't suit all of our guests needs so we lost that money.

The next time around (with Air Canada Vacations) we were smart. Told all of our guests that if they wanted to come, they needed to put down their own deposit with a deadline in 2 weeks. Seems kinda harsh but I was so livid that I lost the signature money, I didn't really care at that point. Everyone booked and no one said a word to me about only giving them 2 weeks notice.... good thing too cuz I wouldn't have lost it on them!

We did the same thing as MayanLily. We went with Air Canada vacations and it worked really well. We just didn't have the cash to put down deposits on everyone's behalf and we ceratainly weren't willing to lose money on guests that couldn't commit. Once we found out that we'd have to put deposits down within two weeks of the quote we sent out an email STD telling people the dates we wanted to travel, that we were looking at 5-star resorts in the Mayan and that when our next email came around they'd have two weeks to call our travel agent and put down their desposit. About a month later we updated our quote, sent out the official STD's and we had EVERYBODY book on time! We had a few couples that decided to book last minute and it all worked out!

Hi Ladies!

I'm not a Calgary Bride, but I received a great quote from Romantic Planet for my wedding guests and have read back in this read about some of your dealings with them - its been super helpful!

So what I got overall from it was they are great to deal with, but that I shouldn't put down deposits for my guests and just get my guests to put their own deposits down within a certain timeframe? How long did they give you to get the deposits?

Thanks Nades for directing me here! :)

Hi Christina,
Yes our guests had a few months to put their deposit down which worked out well.

I think it actually depends on the package you choose. The signature package gave me 7 days... hence, me panicking and putting down 20 deposits to hold the price for everyone. Also, just so you know, Signature WILL NOT deal with you directly if you are booking through a travel agent. I called to ask a question about their flights and they wouldn't even talk to me. I was screaming "BUT IM THE BRIDE"

I think Air Canada Vacations quote was good for 4 weeks. By the time I finally sorted out Signature screw up and decided to go with AC, my guests only had 2 weeks to put down their own deposits. Everything worked out great that way. It sort of forced my guests to come up with a decison. Which I'm happy I did because I hear other brides complaining alot about their "undecided" guests.

Also, Tara Hartman is amazing at romantic planet!

Thanks so much for all your help ladies!

I didn't realize how different everyone's dealings were. I thought what I had was standard (90 days held about 25 spots for $400- we then had waaay more and still got the price even after the 90 days) so I was freaking out when my friend told me she only had 7 days.

Anyways. Thanks again.

Happy Friday All!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
