Thanx for all your great advice. The problem we have is everyone wants to fly together and the First Choice/Tompson flights are £600/£700 dearer. We have to think of our guests as well as ourselves budget wise. I would love to wipe out the flights with TC but they are the airline Cosmos use. Booking direct for me would cost over 7k (we have to pay adult price for my son who will be 13) just for the two week trip then adding on wedding package and photographer it's just to much. I wish there was a way around it that accommodated us and our guests but we are at a stand still at the mo... Very Very frustrating!

I know what its like trying to please your guests...but we made all our decisions before letting our guests know we were getting married abroad...that way, they knew the expensive from the start...we also gave them over 2 years notice!lol

Booking direct does cost alot extra...we were just below £6k for the 2 of us for accommodation for 2 weeks and our flights, so I defo can relate to you! Luckily we don't have a family yet and our mortgage is relatively small so we were willing to go all out for our wedding.

Good luck with your planning..with the help of everyone on this board you'll get through it and have the most amazing time!

Yes it is hard but we also gave alot of notice. We've been engaged for 6yrs now!! Can't get more notice than that. Lol. And everyone knew we were marrying in Mexico from day one. Still doesn't help the budget though. I wished it did. If we didn't have a big mortgage and no kids we would probably go all out too but that's just not how it is for us! I'm sure it will all work out and we'll have a great wedding. Thanks for all your advice. Your right i love this site it is SOoooo helpful and addictive lol. x

Hi my name is Lisa & I am getting married 2nd June at the Gran Bahia Principe Tulum.....I don't want to tempt fate but so far everything is going really well.....I phoned (yes phoned!!) the resort & booked my wedding date!! I was told by my TA not to do this but they wanted me to wait 8 weeks after booking to get my wedding date....NO CHANCE!! & besides some of the people only coming for 7 days may have missed the wedding day!! I have read through all the posts on hers & have to agree that I don't know how THOMAS COOK get any repeat business, they could'nt offer me what I wanted, wouldn't match other quotes & to be honest were rude. I ended up booking with COOP TRAVEL using FIRST CHOICE & THOMSON. All 35 of us leaving on the same day, same flight & get married 6 days after arriving so it gives us 8 days after wedding to chill out!! Am so excited I could burst.....just need to lose some weight to go dress shopping!!

My WC in resort has been fantastic, I have booked my wedding location, wedding dinner & poolside reception & DJ all with a year to go!! Is anyone taking OOT bags for their guests? Seems to be an American thing I hear a lot on here!!

Welcome along - great to hear from another UK bride.
You have done so much and still a year to go - I've got 7 months left and still havent ticked much off my list!!!
I have to be honest and I had never heard of OOT bags before i joined this forum but have decided to do them - i only have 10 to make one per couple or one per singleton!! lol. I have been collecting things from the pound shop of the last few weeks. I think the guests will like them as they will be unexpected - i'm only doing basic ones - as i have to get it all there!!!!

OOT bags sound fab what do you put in them i have never heard of them before, i am not sure what to do for favours and things was thinking of maybe personalised fans for the ladies which will be put on the seats at the ceremony also thought of mini tequilas and personalised shot glasses other than these ideas not thought of anything else.

Well done you :-) Its great that you called up and did it all of your own back :-) I must say the run up for the last few months with Tom Cook were fab... a few hiccups since booking, like lost the forms (twice) nearly giving us a differen wedding package than what we wanted... Finally got our paperwork today... they told us 2 weeks but its actually been 5 weeks.... All signed and sent away.. need to wait now (they say a week or 2 but not holding my breath) until all is confirmed....
I must say the girl in the shop has been fabulous though!!! all the way through, just a bit of a poo wedding dept!!! Do you have a dress in mind?
Yeah like a few girls on here... i never heard of OOT bags til i came on here, i decided to do them, then i changed my mind and dcided not to do them... now im debating again.. :-) Watch this space xox

Im not sure whether to do favours or OOT bags at the mo... i think i will see how many we have coming before i 100% decide.

In OOT bags, people put things like..
Mugs
Chapstick
Playing cards
Hang over kits
pashinas
flip flops
resort maps

the list goes on, and most stuff is usually personalised with Bride & Groom wedding details, names & dates etc :-) You should check out the OOT section on this forum... FAB....

Did anyone read this article about TC?

Bride-to-be Austin Kettle changes her name to 'I Hate Thomas Cook' over booking fee row | Mail Online

I keep having bad dreams about the wedding lately - things like its 2 hours before the wedding I dont have a dress and nothing has been planned ... urgh.

currently i'm planning a surprise 30th party for my FI for september its not cheap but before we decided on a wedding date we were going to vegas for his 30th now we're getting married we cant afford it so hopefully it'll make up for it a little bit

I like the idea of OOT bags but I cant help but think is it one of them things where u get the items then u get home and chuck them in a drawer? and not to mention using the baggage space!! ekk! I am however doing fans.

waybuloo - welcome to the thread, I did exactly the same and booked the wedding direct with the hotel! who wants to wait for their date!?

xx

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
