Worst gift ever..

Its not a bad gift...but I had always wanted a Samantha doll (you know, American Girl?). My neighbours have a (not so anymore) little girl who had a bunch of them and when I would babysit we would play with them.

Fast forward to my college graduation. I am getting nice and needed stuff (like money!!) and I open my neighbours gift...its a Samantha doll! They were like "we know you always wanted one!" Ummm I am 22!! WTF am I going to do with an American Girl doll?!?!

Suffice to say, its 6 years later. The doll is still in its original box. I wrapped it tightly in like 5 garbage bags to keep the air/bugs out and its in my parents attic. Hope its still nice and new because my niece will be getting her first American Girl doll from me when she gets a bit older :)

OMG I wanted a Samantha doll more than life when I was little!! I would spend HOURS looking at the catalogs and picking out clothes and furniture that I may want. I love that you got one for college!!!

  • 1 month later...

Love these! giggling the entire time!

my worst gift would prob have to be our wedding gift from DH's Mom and step dad who we are pretty close with...we got an oval shaped painted pottery plate from mexico with a mexican wedding on it...it was so ugly and had nothing to do with us, other than we were getting married...but in Jamaica! and 2 champagne glasses that are so tall they don't fit in our cupboards. it was a bit of a shock considering just 2 years prior they gave his brother 10k for his wedding gift! and we get about $30 spent on us. at least round it up to $50! HAHA gee thanks guys! my mom keeps saying, oh no they will give you a real gift...no mom, they won't! lol

This thread is awesome !

I got a few terrible gifts and I don't know where to start. This one maybe :

What is it are you going to say ? Well to this date I don't know. This is a Xmas gift from a guy of my team, so I have to keep it and it's sitting there, on a shelf, in front of my eyes, every day smile41.gif

Other than that, I got a teddy bear. Nice, yes, except when it's from the guy you've been dating since 3 years and you're turning 30 !!!!!!!!

Also got a stuffed turtle for my birthday from another boyfriend (this time I was turning 16), reason : because of a stupid word play with the word "turtle" in French. I can probably let you understand a bit even with "turtle". Imagine your boyfriend giving you a turtle for your birthday and saying "because if you replace the t by a d it's you". Well, replace the "tle" by a "d" and that will be the same kind of joke. Nice no ?!?

In another vein, DH got me an origami kit for my birthday last year. I thought it was pretty clear to him what I liked or dislike (HE likes origami...). smile35.gif After that I sent a list for Xmas (and when I say a list it's as general as : jewels, massage, travel stuff, etc etc) and I got nice stuff for Xmas !!

I had a boyfriend I dated for three years who would buy me jewelry. Unfortunately, I'm allergic to most costume jewelry (anything under 14k) and I break out into hives. I let him know this, and I told him that he never has to buy me jewelry, but if he does, it has to be the good stuff.

Well, I got (on separate occasions) two different necklaces, a bracelet, and a set of earrings that I can't wear. What's more is that the earrings he bought were picked out by one of his female friend's mother who I disliked very much (she was super condescending, holier-than-thou, and called me a whore behind my back)! She assured him that they would be good enough for me because they were "Black Hill gold" and that was really good.

This guy also got me a book on yoga that said "How to lose weight by doing yoga" in big red letters on it.

Thankfully FI is a good gift giver. I knew he was a keeper when his first gift to me was a full day at the spa!

Ha ha...these are so funny to read.

My worst gift ever would have to be the present I got for my 19th birthday from my godfather/uncle. So about two months before my birthday, I had moved out of my parents and in with my boyfriend. It wasn't a popular decision with my mom or her side of the family, being that I am the oldest and they're super traditional. Anyways, my uncle went to the trouble of getting my new address and sent me a card and a book. Inside the card underneath their names they wrote "pay special attention to chapter 5" So I open the book which is entitled "Ten Stupid Things Women Do To Mess Up Their Lives", flip to chapter 5...."moving in with their boyfriend"...seriously??

Some pretty funny gifts here!!!

I think our worst - even though it's so sweet! - is a wedding gift from my grandma. She hand made a huge 11x17 (or bigger!) cross stitch & framed it for us. It has two doves on the top, with some verse about being in love & married - then our names & wedding date on it. It is not our style at all...very country...and I have no idea where I'm going to put this thing!!! I have to keep it, because she made it just for us...but I definitely don't want it displayed anywhere!! I think I might just have to put it in a box & put it away...

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
