JRB- if i remember correctly you have to have a certain number of people to get the dj and private dinner but i could be wrong. I haven't paid much attention to that since I've known from the start I didnt' want to do it. Sorry!

Wow 200 people at your AHR sammysgirl!?! That's awesome. What kind of stuff are you going to do? Like a full seated dinner? Inside/outside? Music? What will you wear? My Mom wants me to have a party at home afterwards too but I'm not sure how it all works...oh, and what does AHR stand for anyways?

We are doing a traditional reception just like any other wedding reception. It will be like the guests just didn't attend the ceremony. Full buffet dinner, open bar, dj, dancing, cake cutting...the whole 9 yards really. It will be at a country club in my hometown. I will wear my wedding dress love.gif I absolutely love it so why not wear it again, plus most of these people obviously aren't going to Mexico and everyone always wants to see the bride in her dress.

AHR=at home reception. If you need any help or have more questions about it let me know!

I love that you're wearing your dress again! And you're right - everyone always wants to see the bride in her dress! I think I will do the same.

My parents just bought a new house with a fantastic yard so my Mom really wants to have the party there under big white tents. Catered too with bar and band or dj. I wasn't sure but now I'm kind of liking the idea...

I would have LOVED to have my AHR in the backyard! My mom has a huge backyard that would be perfect, but I realyl didn't want the stress of figuring out a catering company, ordering the tent and allt he suppies, PLUS everything else you would need. I think its a great idea if you have the time, effort, and energy that it would require!

Hi Everyone!!!! happy hump day!

Nicyx - congrats on being a RPRM bride!!!!

Sammysgirl - AHHH you must be getting SO excited!!!! its happening so soon! when are you having your AHR? so happy for you!!!

vlvetter7 - love the dress! i think i saw on another forum that you were looking at Moments that Matter Photography? i've got them booked and i'm so excited to be working with them! As for a legal ceremony dress nordstroms always has cute stuff...

So i leave for Thailand tonight, we are having a thai blessing ceremony (my mother is thai and my family is there) which i am super excited about. nothing is legal or anything and we dont exchange vows or even rings; its more of a blessing from the family and friends and a celebration of the union. originally we were going to do it after our mexico wedding but my mom was upset with me and didnt talk to me for months until i figured out that she wanted the thai wedding first... so we agreed and planned a thai wedding blessing ceremony in 2 months and now are leaving for it tonight!

In terms of the Mexico wedding drama.... well me and my FI just found out last night that his grandmother has been going around and talking to his family and telling them that they really didnt need to go to mexico and that they could all just skip out on that and she would just arrange for something in CA in her backyard at her house. Um she did this without even TALKING to us about it and is planting all these ideas in the FI's family heads that they dont have to even consider going to Mexico, and therefore FORCING us to have something here in the states instead.. I AM SO FRUSTRATED AND PISSED! and so was the FI. basically his gma doesnt want to go to mexico because she is afraid she might get killed.. i mean seriously?? really? you can get your teeth cleaned down in a boarder town but you cant go to one of the nicest places in mexico far way from the violence? really? and if you were really worried about people getting killed shouldnt you be more concerned about me and my FI going to bangkok were people were actually killed and bombs were going off?? AND you didnt even talk to us about it?!

its so frustrating because i know that yes in reality that would be a good option since the FI family money situation isnt the best, times are tough we know. But we told them that we wanted to have a destination wedding in Mexico 14 months ago and they were all for it! and we told them to start saving like 20$ a week and they would be fine. i mean she hasnt offered to help financially for anything for this mexico wedding but it is totally ok for her to go behind our backs and plan something we dont even want? and for the price of a ceremony in his grandmother backyard , well that could help pay for his family ( by family i mean the 3 people he wants there that are financially in a tight spot ) to go to mexico.

SIGH

so yeah... that is my mexico wedding drama.... at least i have thailand right? OH and to top that off.. my FI and i were going to go on our semi mini honeymoon in thailand because we wouldnt have that much money or paid time off afterward to do one in mexico. well my mother got upset that we were not spending time with her (understandable since i only see her like 2 weeks out of the year.) anyways long story short, my honeymoon is now a family vacation, my parents are coming with us. yep. and that is that. happy weds everyone. sorry for the long venting post.

Dreamingofsunshine - first of all - so sorry you're dealing with all this drama. I really do not understand why so many people say they will come to destination wedding and get really excited about it and then the time comes to book and they go behind your back and all decide to bail.

Someone else also told me to check out Nordstroms (Samira :-)) and I went online but haven't yet made it to the store. Soon!

And yes, I was really excited about MTM until I found out that they are only sending one photographer to 2011 events with an assistant (where now both Lori and Lincoln go together so you get two photographer's working to capture the day) and the prices are going up. Weird.

OH, and I have to ask- what did your FI say about having his in-laws join the honeymoon? I think that's a riot!

vlvetter7- on man thats sad that MTM wont be working together, does the assistant work as a photographer too? if so i'm sure they would pick someone amazing to work with them.

I'm really lucky that my FI is so cool. when we learned that the only way we could do a get away trip was to get away with my parents he said "of course your parents are coming on our honeymoon with us, why wouldnt they" and they we just started laughing hysterically. its not that bad though, because we are now thinking of it as a family vacation. it doesnt sound that bad if you say family vacation, it helps change the mid set and expectations. we will just try super hard to save up money so we can go a REAL honeymoon after the wedding in mexico. it will be hard but oh well.. i mean being in mexico to get married is already pretty good!!! :)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
