Fortunatly MY parents are paying for the wedding and paying for Bridal party to go. They are very generous. When we first started planning we were planning with a very small budget but then parents offered to "up" our plans.

We're paying for honeymoon, attire, DIY projects etc.

FI's family are paying for themselves to go... other than that they haven't offered or asked ONE thing about the wedding..can you tell I'm a little bitter. LOL!

We had planned on paying for it all ourselves. I don't want to blow our house savings, so we planned with a budget of $3,000. Then my mom said she wants to help out. We totally do not expect her to do this, but she said she had planned on it. Now that we are getting help, I increased the budget by $600 so we can hire the hotel photographer. I don't know what his family plans on doing, but whatever they decide would be fine with us. They are coming to the wedding & that's all we really want. It's nice knowing that we can pay for it all ourselves without creating any financial strain, but any amount family contributes will just allow us to save that much more for a house.

When I have kids, I think I would offer all the kids a flat amount. If they want to elope, they can keep it. If they want a big wedding, they can pay the rest.

My FI's parents are paying for EVERYTHING. And when I say everything, I mean everything. They even insisted on paying for 2 nights stay for all our guests... right now we anticipate 150. It sounds crazy now, but this was the source of endless arguments between the families. The whole reason we decided to have a destination wedding was to get away from the 200 person NY wedding, with all its costs and stresses. Now we are planning a 150 person wedding Mexico - yeah, no stress there (insert sarcastic tone here).

We are pretty much alone on this one and I am scared to death! His folks have offered to give us some money but I have no clue how much that will be, they are doing pretty well so hopefully it will be more than a pat on the back. My mother has offered to cover my dress which is huge for her because she works paycheck to paycheck.

Everyone who is getting help should understand how huge it is to be handed money- it must take some of the stress off.

I definitely see that now, but when this all started, FI and I were not feeling that way at all! We never wanted anyone to spend that kind of money on our wedding. Also, at first his parents hated the idea of a DW so their offer to pay for all the guests was more of an apology to all their friends for their son's "crazy idea of a DW."

Since then, they have warmed up to the idea alot (mostly because all their friends and family have told them how excited they are!) and more and more we realise that they are paying for this wedding because they love us and want to give us the wedding of our dreams :) ... weddings/wedding planning can be so emotional!

I forgot to add in that my FMIL is paying for my FH's brothers (3 of them) and wives to come to our wedding. This is a big deal because we are pretty sure they would not have been able to come otherwise. So, I did not want to leave that out.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
