Calling out French-speaking brides - Looking for ceremony help!

I have been writing my ceremony script and am looking top do the opening and closing of the ceremony in French, as a surprise to all of our French-speaking guests. I tried looking for examples of ceremonies in French, but I can't find anything at all on here or on Gloogle - I can only find examples of texts to read during the ceremony.

I know that there are a lot of Montreal brides-to-be on here; are any of you having the ceremony in French or in both languages?

Any help is much appreciated!

We thought about it, but since we only have 2 out of 20 guests coming who are French speaking, we decided to forgo it... good luck in finding that though, its a great idea!!

French is the first language of 1/3 of our group and I'd say that 1/2 speak it, so it makes sense in our case. By total fluke the person doing our ceremony speaks French, so I wanted to utilize it - I just didn't like the ceremony that she put together, it didn't feel like "us".

Sorry. If I come across anything I'll let you know though. We have a similar problem in that half our guest are French speaking but our ceremony is in the DR and has to be conducted in Spanish. We have the option of having someone translate it but that would mean translating it into French and English and we're afraid that would take too long. We're thinking of just having it in Spanish and providing written translations with the programs. Anyhoo, i know that doesn't help you but just thought I'd share my own French dilemma Good luck!

Wow, that's even a bigger challenge! Good luck to you too! I do like your idea with the program though, that way you can easily cover everyone

I cannot speak french but I am planning on doing the same thing because my FI and his family and most of his friends are french-creole speakers from Haiti. Thus, I thought it would be a great surprise to have english/french info on our website as well as on all of the informational handouts that we are going to be giving out to people.

Another bride on here shared this website with us, she had used it to make little phrase booklets I think (sorry I cannot remember her name)

Hello there !

I'm French and got married to an American so we had 50/50 guests. Most French speakers were speaking English but not all of them so - we did a bilingual ceremony.

Basically, half of the ceremony was in French, half in English. For those who were understand both languages, there was no repeat (except the vows !). For those who understood only one language, the ceremony was still making sense as a whole.

The minister was speaking a little bit of French so it helped. He sent me a basic ceremony in English and I used it but basically, I re-wrote it completely to suit our needs.

I made an entirely bilingual program, where all the readings and songs lyrics were translated in both languages (we had one reading in French and two in English, and all the songs were in English).

I can post my templates here later on - they are at home.

Also note that my STD and welcome booklets are available in both French and English, so I can repost them in French too (I think I posted the English version only).

In the opening:

In the closing:

Vos vies individuelles sont désormais unies – vos familles et vos amis sont maintenant aussi unis. Que votre mariage vous apporte tout le bonheur qu’un mariage peut apporter, et que votre vie continue de vous accorder patience, entente et beaucoup de bonheur.

My FI and I are both French speaking and all of our guest too (everybody understands and speaks english too). My question is, if you have a symbolic ceremony (renewal of vows) is it conducted is english or spanish. I know that the legal ceremonies are made in spanish and I woudn't want to translate from spanish to english and then to french, but I would really like some parts to be translated especially for the vows.

Hi Isa, I don't know, as we're getting married in Mexico and not DR. I'm sure if you look into the DR threads you'll find the answer to your question! Otherwise you can ask your resort and they'll let you know what can be done.
