The new Dreams Tulum thread! (Post all DT Qs&As here)

Recommended Posts

We got married May 1st last year and instead of paying money to have the resort/bell boys deliver our OOT bags, we decided since we knew when our guests were getting there to greet them in the lobby when they arrived and hand them their OOT bag. If you have a lot of guests coming this might not be an option. We had about 25 and a lot got there on different days so it worked out for us. It was really nice seeing everyone when they arrived because they were so excited to finally be in paradise! It was awesome seeing everyone's reaction as they walked through the doors of the resort.

That is such a great idea!! And it makes the OOT bag so much more personal and gift-like. Thanks, consider that an idea stolen.

Aurora definitely does not seem to want to give any freebies away but it seems like white should be free. Please keep us updated on what you end up working out.
Hi. Yeah, probably because of us choosing the free option. I've learned that if i keep pushing, things will work out, but i'm sick of pushing and i'm sick planning on bringing my own things to mexico for decor. At this point, maybe wooden tables would be nicer. :) more rustic (i'm kinda serious...i'm just over it). I asked a few months back what the chairs look like under those covers (never found out)...if they are folding metal church chairs, no...but wooden wouldn't be bad.

maybe i'm just a little overloaded on wedding. anyhow, all in all, everything has gone smoothly and we've been able to negotiate to get what we want...this has been our first strange additional cost and i know it will go away, i'm just going to deal with it on another day.

Two things that may help everyone out:

1. i am not sure how much the wedding guide has changed, but in Jan., the 2009 was the same as 2010. this has been a great negoitating tool for us. I will see if i can find my old one, but there used to be one at the start of this forum. when you are told that there now is a charge, or that it's changed, etc..read and re-read the guide...if it doesn't state the charge/change, then you can probably get it removed (esp. if you booked at the end of 09/start of 10).

2. take the time with your fiancee to call directly. ask for Landy instead of your wc. the manager is really the one who can say yes or no. once you get a yes, send an email asking for confirmation (bring copy with you to resort). i say make the call together because more seems to get done with a man on the phone.

good luck.

xoox,
tt

Sunbride, in their new wedding guide they actually have pics showing the different setups included in different packages and the free wedding is just the chairs, no gazebo structure at all, not even the wood poles, so Im not sure if they remove it or if they have a different location that doesnt have gazebo poles. mmmm....strange...
I was just there for three weeks, the gazebo structure stayed up the whole time, it's actually more solid and permanent than it looks, it even has lights wired into the corners. Every beach wedding we saw in that time (approx 10) was performed under the gazebo. Most were with tulle drapes, I think maybe one was without.

Hi ladies! I will be getting married at DT on June 21st, 2010. Looks like we will all be there the same time. Are any of you planning on doing anything special for the reception, or just sticking with the basics. I am in the process of figuring all that out now. Congrats!!!

Hey all!

Thanks so much for the forum!

My fiancee and I are strongly thinking about going with DT. We want our wedding the first week of May 2011. How far in advance do we need to book to get the day we want for the wedding? Our TA was telling us to wait a bit cause she thinks the price will come down but I don't want to leave it too long. I don't wanna be stuck with a time I don't want.

Thanks for any advice that you can share!

My husband and I booked Dreams Tulum in August 2008 and got married May 1, 2009. However, I do think that destination weddings are becoming more and more popular so you can never be to safe. If you know you want to do it here, book it! Then you can start working on your save the dates!

Welcome SaraMexicoBride! I don't think it is too early to start thinking about booking. If you know that you want it there and if you are partial to a date (especially a weekend), you should just get the date and time you want now. You can put a deposit down for the wedding only and look for deals on travel and rooms later. From what I have seen, prices only go up when it comes to wedding and reception related stuff. You can always get your deposit back up until 6 months before the wedding. If you book now you will probably get/be able to negotiate with the 2010 prices but later you will probably have to use only what is in the 2011 wedding guide. I wonder what makes your TA think that prices will go down?

If you know what date you want book it now to confirm. Im getting married May 6 2011 and we booked our date and time with DT in November 2009. You just have to wait for pricing to be released which will be this June.

Congrats to you too!
All I am doing special is bringing my own dj but renting their equipment, hauling some decor down for the tables and maybe hang some lanterns but thats all.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
