Aww that's sweet! It was so tough deciding on a resort, they all have pros and cons, you know? And it's tough to find one that you think will please everyone, and yourselves too!

When I first started planning I totally fell in love with the Dreams resorts, but it really did seem like a "dream" to me to have my wedding there... too pricey for us and for our guests. Then we started looking at the Dominican Republic and the Dreams resorts there were much more reasonably priced, as were the costs for the weddings so I was thinking a Dreams wedding might be possible for me after all. But when it actually got close enough that we could start checking prices and availability, etc, our TA advised that flights to the Dominican were a mess (multiple stops, long layovers) and that although not all flights would be like this, there were no guarantees. And we couldn't do this to our guests. Total bummer. She suggested we have a look at Dreams Riviera Cancun, brand spanking new and offering great introductory rates, free kids, and awesome group perks and freebies. We looked at the photos and initial reviews and were sold! We changed all our plans, booked our date, and had everyone start putting down deposits on rooms right away. So my dream wedding gets to come true after all - so cool the way things work out sometimes!!!

Aw that's great! I'm a firm believer in everything happens for a reason and fate - sounds like it was just meant to be! :)

On another note...what are you all doing for favors? We are thinking of doing drinking mugs for everyone in a bright color. We thought since some guests won't know each other, this would be a good way for guests to "see" who is there for our wedding. I also want to do palm fans to put on each guests seat at the ceremony. Then again I also really like the idea of macaranas (to be bought in Playa)...

I am for sure doing Mugs! They are so fun and cute... Our colors are orange and pink so we're going to do bright orange mugs so they will really stand out. I don't want to do the whole OOT bags because it is a lot to pack and really a lot of the stuff in them don't get used (thats what I felt anyways). So instead I might fill the mug with a few little things like pack of gum, welcome letter, a magnet, etc. My mom also knows someone who makes candles so she already ordered some travel candles from her so each room can have a good smelling candle!I think I am going to do the maracas too (bought in playa); they are a cool Mexican thing to add to the wedding, and one less thing for us to pack since you can get them down there.

I agree, we were initially going to do OOT bags, but have since decided against them. I think that is a great idea to put the welcome letter and a few things in the mug! Genius! :) Have you bought your mugs yet? I've looked at a few sites, and discountmugs.com so far looks reasonable.

This forum makes you want to do everything!

I am doing palm fans for the ceremony (bought at OTC) that will have the handle wrapped in ribbon and a program attached.

We are also doing OOT bags, not too over the top or full but will probably include playing cards, first aid supplies, gum, golf balls for the boys and starfish necklaces for the girls, etc. Also thinking of putting mugs in these, but from what I have heard about Dreams it seems like the glasses are big and they refill them often enough that your drinks don't get cold. Still I think cups are a cute idea, like maybe stadium cups, which would also be easier to pack. Alternately I was thinking custom water bottles (like that they could use for excursions off the resort).

Not sure if we are going to also do favors at the table. I love the idea of doing maracas, or I have also seen starfish wine bottle stoppers that are lovely. But on top of the other things I'm sure guests won't be wondering where their favor is at, and I'm not sure we can afford more gifts (or have room to bring them all!).

Remind me again of what OTC is... I have been thinking about doing fans but haven't looked into them. Were they fairly reasonably priced??

And I definitely agree that with doing the OOT bags, the guests won't be wondering about favors.

OTC = Oriental Trading Company

The fans were very reasonably priced (under $1 each). Here are the ones I got: Refreshing Fans

You can get them quite a few places online but OTC seemed about the most reasonably priced, especially if they have a a free shipping or other promo on.

Hi Ladies!

I am getting married on December 11 at The Royal Playa del Carmen! We've got 16 booked so far and are in the process of booking the D.J. and photographer. I'm almost done with our OOT bags but I can't seem to stop shopping!!! I'm sooooo excited!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
