ok so i have finally received an email back from my WC (5 weeks in total). Balls up number 2- we booked a catholic cermony at the very begining in may 2009. Now i have been told that the wedding isnt legally binding and we have to be legally married before the ceremony!! WTF!! what is the point of that? and if the ceremony isnt legally binding what is the purpose of the wedding certificate they will be giving us in mexico. I get married in just over 6 weeks. i'm so stressed now i just dont need this. has anyone else had this problem?

Oh no i'm soo sorry to hear this...have either of you been married before? What reason have you been given for your ceremony not being legally binding?

Just found this on the net....

"n Mexico, only civil marriage is recognized as legal. Persons wishing to do so may also have a religious ceremony, but it has no legal effect and does not replace in any way the legal binding civil marriage. A civil wedding in Mexico is fully valid for legal purpose in the U.S."

So it's because you want a religious ceremony...hmmmm...that's no fair!! Are you willing to forfeit the religious ceremony? Otherwise I think you'd need to get married here first...probably best not to tell any of your guests!, then "get married" again in mexico.

I think alot of people do actually do this....

Isn't there some way that you can combine the catholic and civil? That would be kinda silly if the catholic ceremony was not legally binding.

There are now 4 other weddings on my date (08-09-2010)! I just went to the website and checked the availability... There are weddings at 2, 3, 4, 5(me), and 6 now. Who are these other 4 people? LOL! I hope they join the forum!

They have some new pictures of the collections up (well since the last time I have been to the site). I am getting nervous b/c the deadline to book with my contract is May 1st, and we still only have 7 rooms booked with the travel agent. :-( a lot of people booked elsewhere because she was offering them rooms with a view and they saw the prices for the garden/parking lot rooms on orbitz/expedia and booked there. I wish she had emphasized the cheaper rooms... make sure your TA's emphasize that!

I need 3 more people to book so our contract is not void. FI claims that it is not a problem but I hate how people keep saying they are coming but then don't book!!! If you are coming just book what is the problem!!!!! One of my BM just called and said she isn't coming now b/c of money so now I do not believe anyone because she swore up and down she was coming. I know I am being rude but either book or don't book don't sell me these promises and get my hopes up! I hope we can get the deadline extended. Does anyone else have this probleM? I will be so mad if people book after because then we do not get the free reception, upgrade, and room nights!

I'm going through the same thing... i have one room left to book through our contract and all these people are saying they're coming but not booking! You would think that people would know if they are coming two months prior and would book not at the last minute! I guess I wont really know until a month out!

Good luck!

I have the same problem. People are booking at other resorts or using timeshare at MP.

I checked out the website also and some thing have changed.

For the cocktail you only need 5-9 rooms booked or 15 room nights. The qualifications changed for the other private functions too.

I have emailed the WC about having both a judge and a priest present but havent had a response yet. It took her 5 weeks to give me the info and when i read the small print it stated it wasnt legal. I called my priest and he said that if the country you are married in doesnt consider it legal it wont be legal in your home country, Im so annoyed she took 5 weeks to get back to me with basic package information its a joke. if i dont get a response by wednesday I am calling them up I dont care if I have to stay up til midnight!!.

I too am having problems with people booking, 4 people swear they are coming (its 6 weeks until we fly out!!) One hasnt even sent off for his passport (they can take up to 8 weeks in the UK) and the other is suppost to be a groomsman!! and yes we have paid for his suit..... we had to get all the same and i couldnt take the risk of the shop selling out. I just dont think people realise the stress they cause until they are in the same position. i'm just trying to stay sane......

Booking.. I agree, one of my groomsman hasn't paid yet! I have already finished our programs, purchased his gifts and made a down payment on his tux! It can be very frustrating. Also, I still have about 20-25 that have RSVP'd that haven't booked yet. I have the deadline as April 19th, when the room block will be dropped... so I hope they start booking soon. I have everyone's emails.. so I thinking about sending out an email sometime this week warning them about the deadline.....

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
