venting bride to be about neg. guest comments

Ladies, how are you dealing with guest who make smart comments about attending your destination wedding? Some people are just bold to say to me:

it's not fair that you are planning a dw, what about those who can not attend

is it AI resort because they can only afford to do a AI resort

everyone has waited so long to see you get married and that is what you do

will you change your mind for me, it's just not fair

why waste your money, just go to the court house

Those are just a few comments. With all those comments ,the main thing is what I want. Know one ever ask that question ,because they feel it's all about them, and they are not paying for anything for the wedding. I keep telling my myself , everyone is going to be unhappy about something know matter where I get marreid. I just needed to vent.

kendra, i know what you're talking about....i've been getting the:

"what, is your shower going to be in greece?"

"i wish you'd just change the location"

"can't you have an at home reception?"

and my personal favorite: "if it's an AI, doesn't that mean we're paying for our own wedding dinner?"

my FMIL keeps telling me to remember that it's OUR wedding and if they don't want to, they don't have to come. i'm fine w/ people not coming, but ironically enough, those are the people who have already booked.

i said this earlier today in another post - you can't please everyone all the time...since it's YOUR day, please yourself. period.

I have not heard ""if it's an AI, doesn't that mean we're paying for our own wedding dinner?" I just don't understand some people. You are right, I have to please myself.

My favorite response back----

"Oh, I'm so sorry you were under the impression that *my* wedding was all about you. Please, stay home and enjoy that Big Mac and "The Notebook"---- we'll toast you with some really quality champagne in the middle of our Surf-N-Turf dinner, after the fire dancers and mariachi's are done performing..."

I am going through something similar. I think people aren't used to a DW and they dont understand it. A DW makes sense for me because more than 3/4 of our guests would be traveling either way however they are still making comments about traveling. The bottom line is its your wedding regardless where you have it.

You know what I say? F them all. Harsh but true. Some people don't get destination weddings and you have too much going on to try and explain it to them. Think of it as less people to feed, that's what I did. The people who are really down for you will show up smiling. The complainers can stay at home and live out their sheltered lives. Haters.

How would some of these people feel if they had an in-town wedding and we said "why are you having it at the Hilton? can't you move it somewhere else?"

Don't justify you're wedding to people, just say good riddance to bad rubbish!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
