English speaking Catholic priest?

Recommended Posts

Does anybody know of one that will perform ceremonies in Cancun? The Marriott has told us our only option is to have the ceremony in Spanish with a translator. I thought we'd try to bring a priest from the U.S. but that is turning out to be a lot harder than I expected. sad.gif

Thanks!!

A friend of mine got married in Playa del Carmen by a non-denominational minister who spoke English....

I don't see how a Spanish speaking Priest is your only option. That's just probably the one they usually use....

Do both of you have all your sacraments?

I know - I just emailed my WC again to ask if she was SURE there was no English speaking Catholic priest anywhere in Cancun?? I also find it hard to believe! I think the issue is that the Marriott has an agreement with 1 or 2 priests and they happen to not speak English. We both have all sacraments and other requirements, but the officiant has to be Catholic for a Catholic ceremony...

I thought the whole deal was that the ceremony actually had to be in Spanish to be legal in Mexico. Maybe I'm just confused, but I thought that was why you needed to have it translated - not because the officiant didn't speak English.

That definitely may be true...we are doing the legal ceremony in NYC a few days before the wedding so we don't have to deal with any of that. So for the religious ceremony, apparently it can be done in any language we want.

Thanks! that is helpful. Now i'm just trying to solve the mystery of why there is an english mass on sundays but no english priests to do weddings. The WC at the Marriott is trying to figure out what the story is...

Hello!

I am a WC in the Riviera Maya and I know at least 2 different catholic english speaking priests (1 is irish and the other one mexican).

I am sure that they can help you to find an english speaking priest in Cancun. I do not have their phone numbers with me now but let me know if you are interested.

However you must know that a catholic ceremony can not be hold in any place but in a church but we can always arrange to have a catholic renew of vows as a ceremony on the beach in your wedding date.

If you do not mind, there are several non denominational Pastors who can hold english speaking ceremonies!

I hope this serves a little bit!

Good Luck! thewave.gif

Yazmin.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
