May 2010 Brides!

Recommended Posts

Diana, I am so sorry about that. It's $90..seriously, tell her to skip going out to dinner three times and it's covered. $90 is NOTHING....I would JUMP on that.

I'm lucky that my GM and BM are great and so on-board...it's my FMIL that's the issue. She definitely caused some issues at the shower on Saturday. She actually got up once I was done opening her gifts and started opening my moms and said, "Well my stuff is done" and everyone noticied...it was HORRIBLE. I told FI and he was so upset. She is DRAMA and forgets the wedding is her son and me...and not her day.

I hope your situation works out, and her tax check helps...

yeah, we all should remember that it's our day...it's so easy to forget that! like KittenHeart said, i just want people to be straight up with me instead of "oh yeah, i'm so there" 100 times...be honest!

it is so easy for people to fail to realize that the day is not theirs...it is our day!!

I spurred some of my guests along by reminding them flights are historically the cheapest at 90 days out. They typically increase at 60 days and again at 30 days but can go up in price at anytime. Once you hit that 60 day mark the chances of the price dropping is really slim. This got those holding out for a better price to go ahead and book.

It really stinks that the flights are so expensive to PV right now. I chose it because there was a low cost Mexican airline that had direct flights from Austin to PV but they stopped service to Austin last summer once I had booked the venue and coordinator. Now with the outrageous taxes and fees the flights are over $400 a piece!

finley, that is so great about your shower! sounds like you had a really wonderful time (except for FMIL drama)! How awkward & rude of her to do that! Sounds just a little narcissistic to me.

I totally hear all of you about being frustrated with people promising to be there & then flaking out. We've had a couple of those too & it's just annoying at this point. I totally agee, kittenheart - how hard is it to get yourself together when you're given well over a year to plan?!? people are screwy. It's good you were able to get firm with people though.

And $90 for a week?! Seriously, Diana, that is an incredibly generous gift your godparents are giving your BM. Hope she gets herself sorted out!

amanda - we went through a similar issue. Most of our friends & all of my family are flying out of Chicago and there used to be some good direct flights from OHare. Now there aren't any (except like 1 through aeromexico but that sold out months ago) and flights just keep getting more expensive. I even joined bing travel alerts to keep track of flights & have repeatedly emailed our chicago peeps, but people still haven't booked their flights.

ugh. Ultimately things work themselves out & we will all be getting married regardless of who shows up. I guess we just need to keep reminding ourselves that the day & vacation will be fabulous b/c it will be OURS!!

My Aunt had a nice and very true comment at the shower. "Why save my money for when I'm gone, why not splurge a little and go on the vacation. When in our lifetimes will both sets of cousins be away on vacation together, let alone Mexico" And it's so true. This is a once in a lifetime for some family members. We can't even get together at Christmas...so this is a TREAT and completely worth it in the Grand Scheme of things ;-)

I would rather the vacation, memories and great time, then the extra $1,000 down the line...

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
