None of my grandparents are coming either, 2 are gone and 2 are 90 and in no shape to travel. I went up and visited them a few weeks ago and actually was able to get wedding photos of them and my great grandparents and my own parents. So I'm framing these and setting them up at the guestbook table. There is also a nod if you will to them in my ceremony, not specifically them but to those who can't make it.

My grandparents were not able to come to my DW either, so I made sure to include them in the legal ceremony. We had it at their house :-) They told me how honored they were to be a part of the day, and how unselfish I was to share this with them...but in reality, I was being totally selfish because I WANTED them at my wedding and this was the only way it could happen. So if you haven't gotten legally married yet, maybe you could have her come to that? Just an idea...

Also, anyone else on this board getting married around May 24, 2010 in the Dominican? I REALLY want to book a photographer but would like to know if I could find someone to split the cost with...

I was feeling pretty good about my calmness with the wedding until this morning when I read this thread and saw the actual countdown. I'm super nervous now. Hahaha...soooo much to do and soooo little time...

I am so sorry. I am sure she'll want you to continue planning and making everything perfect for your day. I wonder if those phones with video stream that people are using in Canada for the Olympics right now would work for your wedding...it's a thought...

We just got our pens, photoshare cards & little welcome cards/timelines for inside the OOT bags from Vistaprint. They turned out really cute (I'll try to post a pic later).
I'm in the process of making a "shoes optional" sign. I bought some lt blue stiff felt, around 11" x 18 ", in the kids craft section at Michaels & white fabric paint so I just painted the words as a test run & I think it'll be OK, but I have to do the final version. Also got some painted wooden flip flops to glue onto the sign.

We ran into a bit of a problem with our groomsmen shirts yesterday though. So, our colors are aqua, green (kind of clover colored) & yellow. The groomsmen are wearing guayabera shirts & I came up w/ the bright idea of having the embroidery down the front match the girls' dresses (so one light blue, one green & one yellow). Only problem is the shirts came in & apparently the yellow is REALLY light (had them delivered to Chicago where 2 of the groomsmen are so I haven't actually seen them). But according to my sis-in-law, it's kinda hard to tell it apart from the ivory shirt. I also can't tell if I really like the green. sad.gif Now I'm not sure what to do. She sent me a pic, but it's hard to tell w/ lighting & everything how it'll really look & I'm guessing it won't show up in pictures at all. I think we may end up re-ordering the yellow with more of a gold or orangey yellow thread but it's such a pain in the butt. It took over 2 months to get the stupid shirts in the first place. Very frustrated about this, especially since I can't see the shirts! boooo
The sign sounds cute =)

I would wait to see the shirts, plus right now is started the Spring lines in department stores. Maybe Macy's or something will have a cheaper shirts so your are not stuck going through the whole process.

KittenHeart you are on a roll =)

My girls dresses are in, the salon called yesterday. I have a fitting on Thursday and two bridesmaids were coming, so now they can try on the dresses. I CAN NOT wait to see the color. It's like a tiffany blue. I will try and post pics if I can =)

jstar, I'm so sorry to hear about your grandmother! I wish her a speedy recovery.

This is the one aspect of the DW that I feel bad about - it automatically excludes some very dear people from being at our wedding. We each have 1 set of g-parents living, but all are too frail to travel to PV. Mine live in CA & FI's are in FL for the winter so having them be part of our legal day won't work either.

If your grandmother lives near-by I think it's a wonderful idea to include her in your legal day! And the others' ideas of giving her a video of the wedding (or a special album) & honoring her in some way at the wedding are terrific!

thanks, finley. Unfortunately the yellow thread is too light so we're just gonna re-order the one shirt. The other 2 are OK though so it's not a total loss.

And Yay for your dress fitting! post some pics if you can!

Anyone else having fittings coming up?

that is a great idea!! my FI is really sensitive about a memory table..he was very close to his grandma and he thinks that if we have a photo of her at our wedding then it will drudge up sad feelings. my grandparents on my mom's side are still alive but no shape to travel even though my grandpa is 81 and he still drives. Lol.

i def like the idea of their wedding photos!

Awww, yeah I am the same way with my dad. He passed away about 10 years ago but I told my MOH to leave him OUT of her speech and out of our ceremony and not to mention him or my mother not being at my wedding because I'll just totally crumple. So I definitely understand the pictures making him sad.

My grandpa is 90 and still drives!! smile41.gif

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
