I'll have to see someone in the next days to see how much it would cost to fix. In addition, the neckline is not exactly what I would like (this is not so bad, but added to the rest...).

I knew I was taking a risk, but still... Was expecting to post nice pics tonight!

I'm so sorry to hear that! I hope it can easily be fixed. Where did you order from? Keep us updated!

I have a horrible Maggie Sottero knockoff that i bought from inweddingdress.com, so I do NOT recommend that site!! I mean, I wasn't expecting perfection by any means, but I really was disappointing with the ruching. The stitching wasn't even finished!! It had vertical stitching over the horizontal ruching to keep it in place, and it was so noticeable! ugh, just bad. It's just a $300 lump in my closet, but don't get discouraged. I've heard from a few ladies on here that they had good experiences, one of which I heard was lightinthebox.com.

OK, maybe it is not as bad as I thought last week... I am still disappointed, and will e-mail Landy Bridal about this later tonight. I purposely chose them based on good reviews, and must admit that stitches and beading seem well done. Here is the original:

Here is mine, please pardon the bad hair and no smile on some pics, DBF was driving me crazy not taking the pics like I wanted. Front:

I don't know if you can see how the neckline was done, it is kind of sweetheart strapless, and they added that chiffon layer to give it a halter like look. Not very linear like a true halter, specially since I have nothing to fill it. Can you also see the creasing at the front about waist high? Seem like the extra layer used on the bodice (sandwiched between the satin and the inner layer is not sewn perfectly straight and bunches a bit. We tried to iron this out without success.

I think most of it is fixable, not sure the neckline can be made perfect though, which disappoints me, since how hard can it be to make a nice halter in the first place? (Adding lots of padding should help, I've tested it using my magical filled push-up bra.) Someone here gave me a reference for alterations, I have to contact them, but I'm so busy next week, and time is running fast!

My dress from gianinarbridal should be done in 3-4 weeks. After your post I am kinda worried now. I HAVE to like mine. My fiancé will probably kill me if not because I convinced him for months of the idea to order a knock-off... jk, he is the loveliest person I know, but still... He always said I should play safe and go with a dress from a store even if I dont find the "perfect one"... I think I just hate to hear the sentence: "I told you" :-D
At least you will have some proof where you can make modifications, I sure wish I had this option... 2 months ago there were less comment on gianbridal however. I m luck in that my DBF is very supportive, and much less distressed than I am over this. I know he would marry me dressed in a potato sack.

If you feel ok about posting pictures, we could always give you our opinion and suggestions regarding how to fix it.

Either way, good luck!

hmm... I dont understand how they could make it so much bigger if you gave them the right measures... I also understand what you dont like about the neckline. they could have made the separation of halter/chiffon part less visible, for example by using a thicker chiffon or a double layer. But I actually like the skirt and also the beading. it is a nicer color than the original beading. It is also not really noticable that the extra layer on the bodice isn´t straight.

Anyway, you should definitely contact landy bridal and tell them that this is not what you expected. But I really hope you can fix it the way you want it... it definitely has potential and a good tailor will be able to give you some options and advice of how to change the parts you dont like...
Good luck

ewok - Thanks for showing us, for the most part I don't think the dress looks bad in the pictures actually. A few minor adjustments and I think it will actually be really pretty. You're luck it's not too small, too big is easily fixable and the halter neckline isn't terrible but it's a little odd and I think that should be easily fixable as well. I do see the creases in the middle, I'm not sure how to fix that but I'm sure it's possible. Just get a good alterations person and you should be good.

If any of the stitches are off, I really doubt anyone will be noticing that. Good luck!

Dresses from Maggie are made of better material, and therefore cost more. For example a dress from China and a Maggie dress may both be made from chiffon, but a China dress would use a polyester-chiffon where a Maggie would use a silk-chiffon which flows absolutely beautifully and looks just lighter than air. The China dress is still gorgeous and very well made, but you can definitely tell the difference in the fabric. You normally wouldn't know the difference until you got the dress though, because people typically list chiffon as chiffon (or whatever material) without specifying which type they use.

I'm not sure about David's Bridal dresses as I'm not too familiar with them, but I would assume it's the same case, especially since they are able to offer cheaper dresses. You definitely pay for what you get with a higher end dress like a Maggie (better fabric, better crystals, etc), but if that doesn't really matter to you then a China dress would work just as good!
I just ordered my Maggie Dress (sottero & midgley actually). Thought it was a Satin lining, but the tag says 100% polyester (i'm sure it's still good quality.. feels like a dream). Doesn't bother me either way... looks very pretty. I just thought I'd post in case you guys were wondering about the quality of designer vs. china. I'm pretty sure the only reason behind the difference in price is the NAME and the effort the original designer put the gown.

So I had a knockoff made by gianinarbridal. The dress costs $180 with shipping. I first put down a $60 deposit and they just sent me the proof pictures! Now i'll ok it and finish paying. I'M ECSTATIC!

The beading is a bit different - "lighter" I guess but I just love it! And IT'S MINE!!
WOW... I'm speechless... it's utterly amazing and I would even dare to say and exact likeness (maybe the color, but did you use a flash in the bridal shop, because I didn't and it made my dress look less white than it was, even though it is ivory).

I think it's going to be between your's (gianni ?sp?) and RachelRae's (Kerrie16cool.gif replicator. I like your knock off because of the exactness, but RachelRae's seems close to the fabric that I want on mine and they already have one on ebay that's close to it) and even thought both could do it, I like that I can see Rachel's. But I love the deposit idea of Gianni and the fact that many of you are happy with them. I want an Amy Michelson for my TTD
amy michelson : Diamond
I can't find it anywhere but the website, but I cand find other Amy's on knock-off sites, so I think this one is new. The only problem is, the site doesn't specify the type of fabric... I just love how delicate it looks without being wrinkly like silk. I would venture to guess it's satin with a chiffon overlay. What do you guys think? Here's is a link to one of Kerrie168 that looks like mine (obviously I'd get white and try to see if she can do it more like the one I want)

Ok so I just read this entire thread and I also ordered a dress from gianinarbridal on ebay a week ago. She's great to work with, i got a prompt response in less than 24 hrs each time.

I ordered this dress hoping it looks beautiful and if it needs some alterations I can just go get those done.

It does have a corset back so I know that helps but I realize it might be too long, which isnt that hard to fix anyway.

Here is my dress..

It will be in white, and I should be getting it by mid to late March.

Once its here I will post pics :)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
