Process After legal wedding in Mexico

Hi everyone,

 

After lots of debate, my FI and I have decided to stick with our original decision to have the legal wedding in Mexico (not do the legal stuff before and do symbolic while we are there).

 

I know that the resort (Dreams Tulum) offers a service where they can have your certificate translated and then sent to you later (this can take up to 4 months), but I don't want to wait that long, nor do I want to leave my certificate there. I would like to bring back my official wedding certificate with me (I don't want to leave it there for fear of it getting "lost", etc).

 

I have heard that I need to have it officially translated/notarized once we return so that it has an official English translation for the purposes of name changes, etc. Since I live in Regina, Saskatchewan, I'm not sure how I can go about this, what the costs are, etc. I've tried to contact the Mexican consulate in Canada, but I can't seem to find the right person or get any response from those I do email. Does anyone have any advice about this process?

I'm not from Canada, but we got legally married and just paid to have the certificate translated by a certified translator in the states so we could record it with the county and use it for any other legal purposes we need - there are several reuptable companies online and you can just email a copy of your certificate. If your resort would do it for free, I would leave it there - 4 months will pass before you know it.

 

'm surprised mwcfarm's friend was able to get all that done with a spanish certificate, but maybe Canada is different.

Thanks for the help and advice ladies! I appreciate it! Mwcfarms - I'm just wondering if you have to have the certificate in spanish translated before they will accept it here at the banks, etc? Will they accept it if it's not in English (because they can't read it..)? If so, where is good to have it translated in Canada? I've tried going on the mexican consulate in Canada's website and I can't seem to get anywhere because the links don't work properly sad.gif

SWEET! Well, if that's the case, then I won't worry about it and if I do find out I have to have it translated then I can worry about it at that time! YAY!! I'm so excited now that I can just bring my wedding certificate back with me and not have to leave it in Mexico! :) smile03.gif

HI ladies! As a fellow Canadian who had a legal wedding in Mexico I will tell you that

 

a) I had to get it translated from Spanish to English

B) I brought back the Spanish certif - contacted a certified translator (I got this through the MInistry of Transportation) and paid $70 bucks

c) I could not change anything (banking, drivers license, health card, passport etc) without both the Spanish and English versions
