Dreams Riviera Cancun - Brides post here (new thread)

Wow you ladies have such great ideas, do you plan on taking all this stuff down there with you? and how do you hang those paper lanterns and such? I bought paper lanterns for our AHR but in different colors than what we are now using for our wedding. We are doing turquoise/aqua and fuchsia! I would love to do the paper lanterns but I'm not sure how you would get them to hang outside?

p.s. I can already see these great ideas are going to add up to more than I first thought!

I'm planning to bring the flags and the laterns with me. I'm also planning to hang teardrop vases with real touch orchids and strands of crystals from the arch for the ceremony which I will bring with me. I'm absolutely not interested in hauling all this stuff back - soooo if we can leave it with Ana I'm happy to leave my crystal strands, hanging vases and orchids for another bride :) I'm going to wait until my site visit in May to determine how many vases and strands to buy though.

And YES - I agree with you Kym - all my decor ideas are adding up quickly...can't wait to get these bills...considering I have my heart set on pretty gold chairs that cost extra and colored tableclothes...yikes.

Lilly your decorations sound beautiful!! Has Ana confirmed that we can use our own decorations for the arch or gazebo? I was wondering if there were any restriction.

Also I am already sold on star lanterns for up above
For a basic one tone ones they are as cheap as USD 5 Solid Color 5 Point Star
and for the prettier multi-tone USD 8-10
Star Lights, Hanging Lanterns  and Lamps from Divine Planet

Out of curiosity would any of the ladies here be interested in these ones I am done for a couple of bucks each?

Wow Boo those star lanterns are so nice - thanks for this how do you plan on hanging these though? and I'd love to have them after but my wedding is before yours sad.gif

ABout the photographers offered by the resort.... For Juan Navarro, if you want to add hours to your package it is $250 per hour. The packages that they offer only increase the amount of pictures you get, but never increase the hours. When I asked about more hours she told me it is $250 and hour. I am still not sure what we are doing about a photographer and the wedding is in 4 months! I think we will go with one of the resort photographers because I have family members that are professionals as well, I just didn't want them to miss out on the entire party taking pics, however they will take pictures of the two of us after the ceremony because those are the most important to me.

The pictures from the wedding "Patrick & Kelly" are taken by Adventure Photos, the resorts in house photographer. I really like their pictures that I have seen on facebook of the families on the beach, I am just worried because taking family pictures and taking wedding pictures are two totally different things! I think I might just stay with Juan because he has a lot of experience with weddings, and a friend of mine just used him at Dreams Cancun and the pics were amazing.

I know a lot of brides spend the majority of their budget on photos, but this has always worried me because the best photographers still might not do a great job. My sister had a very well known photographer (and very expensive photographer) shoot her wedding and the pictures turned out horrible!!! Even though all the pics on their website were amazing, hers just did not turn out well at all. I am worried about investing so much money into a photographer and they might turn out bad anyway!!!

I feel as though 50 mins is too far to travel to their actual location. Bummer! Anyhow, so now I am on the hunt for a catamaran charter company. I found one tonight that is docked in Cancun. This is about 30 mins away...so it is a little closer.

Cancun Catamarans, Cancun Catamaran Tours, Cancun Sailing, Sailboats in Cancun, Yachts and Deep Sea Fishing Charters.

If there are 32 or less people they have a great luxury catamaran for $330/hr. This includes drinks and dry snacks. If there are more than 32 people then you have to go with this bigger boat and unfortunately you have to pay for 4 hours whether you use it or not. I think it is $1100. If I have 34 or 35 I may see if we can squeeze on there...ha! That is $660 is such a good deal!

They can supply transportation. He quoted me $75/bus (holds 14 people). I think that is round trip but I am confirming. They do not dock at Puerto Morelos. I can't seem to find any companies that do.
Ok, I found another company. Check out marinacancun.com. They quoted me the following:

********Regarding the Catamaran sunset cruise you kindly requested, I can offer the following option:

- ANTARES, Catamaran (see attached image), with capacity up to 40 people.

I can provide the service for 3 hours at $275.00 USD per hour or 4 hours at $240.00 USD , and the additional hour is $220.00 USD (minimum 4 hours). Tips (10%) for the crew are NOT included. It includes continental open bar and dry snacks. Please, consider $5.00 USD for the Marine Park fee for the people that would like to go snorkeling.

Why 4 hours minimum?...just have in mind that we will be sailing most of the time, so you really start to enjoy the trip from the 2nd hour and when you get to the 3rd hour you will really be having a lot of fun!!!!********

I sent an email back to them inquiring about daytime catamarans, I am starting to think maybe a snorkeling cruise would be more enjoyable for my guests, although I still like the idea of a romantic sunset cruise. This company seems to be a better deal than the others, and they hold more people. I will let you know what I hear back from them.

Thanks ebernard! I'm not sure what I'm going to do about a photographer either, just because you spend more money doesn't always guarantee a better/experience or better pictures like you said. Anyone booking with Sweet Caribbean or are they no longer one of the 'allowed' photographers?

Hi Ebernard-
maybe since you booked long before me you can have different photographers? But Ana told me last week my only option was the Adventure photographers (b/c I booked the ultimate pkg)...I am disappointed because the photos I've seen don't really look that great to me!
If she has told anyone different please let me know!!!!

I am thinking about using papern laterns at our reception, too. If anyone hears back on how (or best way we can do this)- please let me know.

Thanks :)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
