Ten Tips on How to Feel Relaxed & Sexy when being Photographed

1. Focus on Having Fun
Make your goal to have fun, not to get great shots - thatâ€s my job :) Everyone looks their best when theyâ€re genuinely having a great time.

2. Visualize
I know this is very Tony Robbins of me, but heâ€s not the only one who recognizes the power of visualization. Make it a practice to see the experience of having a great time, feeling sexy, everything going smoothly, seeing the photos and loving them. Be specific and visualize from your point of view, as if youâ€re in it.

3. Get Inspired
Look at movies and art for inspiration, tear pages out of magazines and begin to recognize your style and sensibility… what is sexy to you? This will help you communicate with your photographer and help guide the shoot.

4. Show Up With All Youâ€ve Got
When I say show up, I donâ€t mean to just show up. Bring it. And be open. Karen deserves all the credit for the success of her shoot, because she showed up, really stretched way outside her comfort zone and gave it all she had.

5. Be Sensual
Use your five senses during the shoot: play music, have a bite of chocolate, a sip of wine, put on a favorite scent, wear a kick-ass outfit you feel great in, and think of memories that make you blush, smile, and sweat… Do everything and (well, almost) anything that gets you hot.

6. Be Silly
Any shyness tends to go right out the window after the first few minutes or so of being silly. I am the biggest ham during a shoot, and I embarrass myself frequently (not always on purpose), but this serves me well as it usually puts everyone at ease. Just goof off and have fun! See how outrageous and silly you can be - itâ€s easier for the photographer to tone you down, rather than fire you up!

7. Create Movement
I often hear but I donâ€t know how to pose. Well thatâ€s good, letâ€s not do that! Create a little action, however, so thereâ€s energy in every shot. Câ€mon you all know how to flirt! If youâ€re on a shoot with me, I can show you some sexy moves (hey hey).

8. Remember the Context
The sheer fact that youâ€re in front of the camera being photographed is damn sexy… itâ€s powerful and vulnerable at the same time, which is an unbeatable combo - enjoy it!

9. Fake It
Iâ€m not telling you to fake the real deal, but if you donâ€t feel 100% confident and sexy while on a photo shoot, FAKE it. Works every time.

10. Be Yourself
Honor who you are, in this moment. Donâ€t wait to lose a few pounds. (Besides, Iâ€m a pro at retouching, and Photoshop is the best personal trainer in the world - more on that in another post!) But itâ€s important that you FEEL sexy, so if working out for a few weeks is going to do that, then great. But letâ€s not wait for all the planets to be aligned and your bangs to be the right length. The time is now. You are sexy and beautiful just as you are.
Wow, thank you so much for sharing that as well...I'm going to print that out a few weeks before I go so I know them off by heart! Brilliant advice :)

Some tips posted on the blog of a photograph I'm considering using for my BD shoot:

(It's in French so I"m loosely translating)

- Get your make-up done by someone who knows how to do make-up for photoshoots. Your photograph may have someone to recommend to you.

- get your hair done by your hairdresser if it makes you feel more sexy and confident.

- Think about the look your FI likes, even borrow some of his clothes

- Bring accessories, even silly ones. Who knows what theme/feeling you and photograph decide to create...

- Pluck your eyebrows the night before to avoid any redness

- Don't forget to shave! (obvious, but then again so easily forgotten cheesy.gif)

- It's better to bring too many clothes/accessories than not enough.

And finally, trust your photograph. You may not know how to pose because you've never done shoots, but it's their job and they are there to help you!

Here are some tips that I just found on the internet:

Wardrobe - Try to have at least 8-10 changes. Sometimes, a nice dress shirt belonging to your fiancé/husband/boyfriend is nice and makes the photos very personal. Also, jerseys from a favorite team either he himself, or both of you share. If he is into any certain sports like hunting, golf, snowboarding, etc. possibly bringing some sort of prop to identify this sport will be good. Additionally, fun little outfits such as corsets, heels, lacy lingerie are always a favorite wardrobe choice when doing boudoir photographs.

Hair – Wearing hair down is always best for this type of shoot. Because you will be moving around so much and laying on your back, holding your head up by your hand (which puts your hand in your hair), and even possibly getting your hair wet in a pool or bathtub… itâ€s always best to wear it down so you are not constantly fixing it during the shoot.

Makeup – I encourage all of my models to go heavy on your foundation, powder, bronzer, and blush. Youâ€ll also need your powder throughout the day to reduce the shine that develops as we work. Additionally, I suggest that you go very heavy and dark on the lids of your eyes and either do light liner or no liner at all on the lower lid. Heavier than usual on the mascara is always good too. Lastly bring several different shades of lipstick; dark mattes, frosts, and glosses are the best.

Most importantly, when doing boudoir photography, you want to have fun and feel relaxed. The more comfortable you are, the better your photos will turn out!

I've booked my shoot for March 27th! Time to hit the gym hard and eat clean! I think I'm going to do a cleanse for the month before! Very exciting but nerve wracking a bit too!

So my BD was on Monday and it was GREAT! So relaxing and really enjoyable. My photographer was AWESOME! She tells you exactly what to do and where to look and to RELAX. It's all about confidence. Work it like you own it and you'll be fine. ;-)

I'll post teasers when I get them.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
