Hello,

I am looking for some advice. We have planned to have our wedding in the Mayan Riviera next February 2011. I just don't know when to start actually working with a travel agent and booking the resort and organizing everything. I have been given such mixed information, one place told me to start a year in advance and the other told me not to worry about it until a couple of months before.HELP!!

Also, I was thinking about seding out my save the dates next month, a year in advance so that people have plenty of time to save money and prepare. Is a year in advance too early to send them out without a definate date, resort, ect.huh.gif

Any avice would be greatly appreciated!!!

Thankyou,

Chelly

Well, personally I wouldn't wait to start planning it until a couple of months before.. especially if your not flexible about when you're getting married. If I were in your situation I would probably get in touch with a travel agent now.. just to get the ball rolling and book a resort. And a travel agent who is experienced in destination wedding will be able to help you with the overall time line of when to start doing things. Also if you know what resort you want to get married at check out that resorts thread on the board - the girls on it will be able to offer you advice/tips :)

If you want to use a travel agent from here just go to the top of the page and click on the button about looking for a destination wedding travel planner! Hope this helps...

I would start now so that you get your preferred date @ the resort you want and can get all the details worked out so that your not in such a panic :) Also I don't think it's too early to send out STD's to all your guests - most people want lots of time to save money, plan their vacations etc. so if I was you I would do them as soon as possible once you get some of the details figured out!

I think you should pick a date and destination now. If you are planning on using a resort or villa and/or outside coordinator, you can choose that now as well. I would wait until a few months before to get to the specifics, like exact location of the ceremony, flower and food choice. Things change so quickly in Mexico some of the smaller details are easier to wait until the date gets closer.

Hello and welcome to the forum, as a fellow Canadian I know EXACTLY what you are going through as I have gone through the same.

Here is what my FI and I did:

Once we got engaged we told our parents about having a DW, it's something that we have BOTH always wanted.

There were a list of people that we KNEW HAD to be there....mostly our immediate family. Once we know they were on board, we made another list of people that we would really LOVE to have there, really close friends and family.

We sent out an e-mail to those people telling them our plans and that as they were so close to us we wanted to give them a heads up as to what we were planning and also roughly WHEN we were planning to have it.

We told them that we were still figuring out more details and that once we had that information that we would let them know.

We also worked with a TA, she took care of us in booking the DAY and time for us for the Ceremony) and getting us in contact with the WC.

Once we had everything finalized with her, got the group rate, we let all the close friends and family know VIA e-mail. They either booked right away or some still haven't, but that is what we expected would happen having a DW.

We didn't send out Save the Dates as we had all the information we needed already. We sent out our invites in August with a RSVP date of Feb 1st and the wedding is on May 12th.

In the invites we made an additional insert with the resort information and the Travel Agent's information. We didn't put any pricing information; however we have a wedding website where we posted that info. We put the Website information on the insert as well.

I have found all other information in THIS FORUM, information about the resort, information that the Wedding Coordinators didn't tell me! This place is a MIRACLE :)

Hope that information helps you. You can PM me more if you need anything :)

We have some amazing travel agents on this forum, IMO I would book your resort within a few months, so looking now will give you time to find one that works within your budget and that is what you imagine your wedding day to be.

Best of luck and happy planning

I just sent in my TA request form and I'm excited to hear back. I've heard great things about the TA's on this site. I want my wedding in Feb of 2011 but can't book travel yet. We've already sent out the word to our friends and family. Will do a save the date in March with more specific days and to remind them to start saving, an invite in the summer when I can book trips (I wish sooner). I am the least patient person and want to book everything now!

Welcome to the forum! Hope you hear back from the TA from here. I have a date around the same time as you do, and I still haven't heard back from them (I sent my info through the link above a few times in the last couple weeks). I read on other forums from the other TAs that it's a busy time for them (arranging upcoming travels), so hopefully they get back to both of us soon! Happy Planning!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
