? for the girls that have more than one dress

Recommended Posts

About 2 weeks after I got engaged, a friend told me about a local thrift store that had wedding dresses donated from a local dress shop. I thought I should check it out, and ended up buying a dress that day- it was a Venus Bridal dress, original tags still on for like $800+ that I got for $99. It was perfect for the beach, and the simple DW I thought I was going to have. Well, the wedding got bigger, and FI & I decided we wanted something more formal. Also, I made the mistake of asking FI what style of dresses he thought he would like (he's extremely opinionated about clothing, believe it or not). When he described the type of dress he WOULDN"T like, it fit the dress I had bought...so, I decided I needed another dress. Also, I felt like I got ripped off on the whole "dress buying" experience and wanted to have fun doing it.

So yes, my taste changed, my wedding style changed, and I bought the first one too quickly. But, it ended up being a great TTD dress, and I am soooo glad I bought it in the end.

When I went shopping for my wedding dress I ended up trying on a Watters dress that came both as a full-length gown and as a knee length dress. When I tried it on we all loved it but didn't think it was right for the wedding. My mom thought it would be perfect for the AHR though and she wanted to buy both dresses for me as a gift, so who was I to refuse. msnwink.gif

We were intially going to have our wedding at home. So I went out and bought the fifth dress I tried on... the saleslady was very persistent that I buy the dress that day as it was the only one they had left. So I did. A couple weeks later... I realized it's not at all what I like. I've never been a poofy dress girl and this was a very poofy princesslike dress.

Well, we changed our plans... now a DW, so this was a great excuse (to myself) to get a different dress - and I did - now with a mermaid skirt.

  • 2 weeks later...

Okay, here is my story (again) about the five dresses. In my defense:

I am probably about the cheapest person you'll ever meet. Seriously. If it's an item of clothing that costs more than $20, I don't need it. So it KILLED me to have to shop for a wedding dress that I'd only wear once and spend all that money on.

DRESS #1: So I shopped a bit but it made me feel sick to my stomach so I started cruising eBay. And at the time, yes, I wanted a great big Cinderella dress. Even though nothing I'd tried on that was great big looked decent on me. So I found this dress I liked by this Italian designer that was $$$$, and had a Chinese company copy it for me. I checked their references, feedback, etc. and the price was only $170 including shipping.

DRESS #2: In the meantime, I knew I would not want to wear that big old dress to the reception part of the evening since I had a morning wedding and it's July in Tulum. So I ordered a BCBG dress also off eBay which I got for around $100. It's gorgeous and pretty casual, but all rhinestoned up.

DRESS #3: When I got the big dress, I wasn't really that pleased at how it looked on me; I still hadn't found one that I considered "the one." So I started looking on eBay for more formfitting dresses and decided I liked the Pronovias gowns. I found a site that was selling them for about $200-$300, but wasn't sure how they fit. So my mom and I decided to go to a boutique and try them on, but ended up "making a day of it" and going to several boutiques. I got talked into trying on a mermaid style which ended up looking much better on me than I thought it would. After an exasperating visit to a very haughty salon, I felt pretty beat up and when we went to the next place (the 5th of the day) and I found something kind of decent, my mom wanted to just buy it for me and be done with it. "no more eBay!" she made me promise. And it killed me for about two months because it was ridiculously expensive, but I do like my dress:

DRESS #4: THEN, we decided to get legally married here and I wanted to invite my grandmother because she's, well, old, and it ended up being all relatives everywhere and some kind of great big deal (which I didn't want). So I found a little eyelet dress with tulle underneath at Ross for $19.

DRESS #5: And another time when I was shopping at Ross and found a long white dress for about $19 that was a perfect TTD dress, so I bought it.

That is why I have more than 1 dress and my (in my mind) reasonable explanations for them.humble.gif

AND, any one of these dresses could be yours! (well, I'm not selling the BCBG dress or the eyelet one).

You can still get it on eBay. Let me know what size you wear and I'll try to find one for you.

I wear an 8 usually, but I got this dress in a 6. And you need booby pads underneath because the top is pretty shear, even though lined.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
