Yes, Excellence is right next to DRC. I think I might look for something in Playa del Carmen...maybe The Royal Play del Carmen. This was one of the places I had looked at for a wedding but it was adults only and was a little more pricey for guests.

My sister stayed at The Royal Cancun and she LOVED it. She said it was a fantastic resort...I'm sure the one in Playa del Carmen would be just as great. I thought about going to Playa del Carmen also but I had heard really good things about Excellence Riviera so I just went with that. I didn't realize it was so close to Dreams when I chose it!

Hi Brides, has anyone got the email address for Ana? We are looking at this resort for our wedding and hoping for the beach set up for the ceremony. I wanted to ask her if you can have flowers and maybe a different colour fabric for the decoration rather than just the plain white. I have seen it at other resorts and just makes it look a little prettier! Also i have a worry about not being able to make reservations at the restaurants. I would hate for my family and friends to wait hours for their evening meal. 30 - 45mins is ok but i have read bad reviews on this, anyone else have the same worry??

Hereâ€s Anaâ€s email: weddings@dreamsrivieracancun.com.mx

I think you can have whatever you want for decorations. The different colored fabric and extra flowers will probably cost you, but I donâ€t see why they wouldnâ€t let you do that. I would confirm with Ana. Let us know what she says!

As for the long waits at the restaurants, we were just there and did not have the same bad experience that others are complaining about. However, there were only 2 of us and it is possible that this becomes more of an issue if you have a large group. Also, remember that these reviews have come in right after a big holiday and the resort was very crowded. None of the earlier reviews mentioned this being an issue.

When we were there we talked to someone who had been to other all inclusives and said that this system was so much better. Apparently, many other resorts make you decide at the beginning of your trip which restaurants you want to eat at during the week and when. Who wants to be on a schedule on vacationhuh.gif

Anyway here is my experience:

1.Asian restaurant (regular table) – 6pm no wait
2.Bordeux – 7pm – 45 min wait. We just grabbed a drink at the lobby bar and were not too hungry anyway from all of the other snacking we had done. So it worked out good!
3.Oceana – 6pm no wait
4.Asian restaurant (tepanaki grill) – made reservations on Thurs for Sunday night. If you want to eat at the grills you should make reservations at the beginning of your trip as there are only 2 tables.
5.Didnâ€t have a chance to try out the Seaside grill, Portofino, or El Patio

I hope that helps!

Oh thanks for the info. I will email Ana and let you know what she says....

I don't mind waiting a bit for a table and when your on your holidays everyone is laid back anyway but when i read reviews on ppl waiting hours i thought that was a bit much. Just shows you, you can't go by everything you read. But thank you for letting me know about your experience, it's nice talking to someone that has been there. :o)

Are the table cloths $10 per table? On the price list it said more than that... I think it said $18-25huh.gif I am having rectangle tables set up in a square/rectangle with the dance floor in the middle so I am not sure if the table cloths would be more for larger oneshuh.gif

I asked Ana about this because I heard that if you wanted to have a section of a restaurant reserved for your rehearsal dinner then it was $10 a person for your group. So I was thinking about exploring this option for the wedding and then just having a private cocktail reception with dancing afterwards. But Ana told me that they could not do this for any weddings. However, I'm wondering if maybe she misunderstood my request, thinking I wanted the restaurant closed for our wedding? Or maybe they just don't want to decorate tables for your party in the restaurant, or have those tables being used for so long as they might expect for a formal wedding dinner. Who knows. I understand if they won't reserve the entire restaurant for your wedding party and close it off to other guests.

If anyone hears anything different, let me know as well!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
