Dreams Riviera Cancun - Brides post here (new thread)

Oh...and forgot to add...

As far as the chair reserving that is in so many of the reviews - my sister just got married and went to Cancun for her honeymoon and she said the chair thing happened at the resort she stayed at too. So, I guess it's a fairly common thing at these resorts.

One quick question.. what time are all of you getting married? What is a good time down there?

Thanks and can't wait to hear all about everyones plans and big days :)

Congrats on your engagement Robyn!

My wedding is tentatively set for 3pm, but I think it really depends on what time of year you are going because the sunset time can be quite different. I want to get married a couple of hours before sunset to make sure there's lots of time for pictures before things get dark (bring a phototographer from home and do not want to waste him!), but not TOO much time between the wedding and dinner. I think a 3pm ceremony, followed by cocktails and pictures, and then a dinner reception around 6pm sounds about right to me.

I'm excited because my TA is going for site visits to the Mayan Riviera next week and will actually be at DRC and meeting with Ana on December 8th, which is the date of my wedding next year! Hopefully she can give me the full scoop on when the sun sets, etc, so that I can have the most ideal wedding time. If anyone has any other questions that my TA could ask Ana or the resort, or any specific pics you're looking to see, please let me know and I'll pass on the request!

This is a pretty common thing at resorts all over the world. I have dealt with the chair saving on 3 cruises as well as the last 4 Marriotts I have stayed at (Aruba, Mexico, Palm Springs). We tend to switch off who makes the saves every morning so people get a chance to sleep in. So frustrating though when people save lots of chairs and never show up though!

Hi all,

I got a response from Ana about blocking off the seats around the wedding site.

This is what she said -

I will set up the signs in the first line of palapas, actually I will propose to the management to take off the first line of palapas in order to have more space. Definitely I will do something with the weddings locations to have it quiet during the ceremony.

So, if she is able to do something that would be good! We'll see. I will post pics of the site this weekend. I have been bugging my FI to upload the photos to my comp.

That's what I would have figured to. However, I was frustrated when I walked down to the other resorts and this was not happening. It is possible that the occupancy rate was so much higher at DRC because of being the #1 spot on TA. I hope that was it...

If anyone is doing turquoise I think it was $10 per table. She had a couple of colors. I'm doing turquoise so thought this was a good option. I will look at this website though too, just in case.

Is anyone planning on going somewhere else for the honeymoon? We booked 12 nights at this resort (1 week after the wedding and about 4 days after most people leave). Now, I'm thinking we should go to an adults only resort for the honeymoon (maybe 4 nights). Just curious what everyone else is doing....

I am staying 7 nights at DRC (4 nights before wedding and 3 nights after) and then going to Excellence Riviera for 5 nights. I think Excellence is very close, if not right next door to DRC.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
