Is destination right for us?

Hi Kendra, congrats and welcome to the forum! A destination wedding can be a lot of stress too, but it depends what kind of wedding you have in mind! As for the family and friends, I'd speak to the really important ones to get a feel on their take on it. Expect some excitement and some objections - it can be a lot more costly for them to attend!

Good luck!

I've learned that a destination wedding doesn't seem to mean less stress (at least not for me). The biggest thing that stressed me out was prices and not being able to get them early enough for my liking. You need to decide what is important to you and your FI and see is destination works for you. For the most part there are people you love that will be unable to attend, so you have to be prepared and be ok with that. Good luck!

Very true... a DW is a wedding and with it comes stress and lots of opinions from everyone! Talk to your FI and see what you both would like for YOUR day and work from there.

Congrats and Welcome!!!

  • 3 weeks later...

hey Kendra,

First of all, no wedding planning is straight forward!! lol just so you're not disillusioned...

what I've learnt is there's always someone with something to say about every decision you make....so the best policy is to make decisions based on what YOU both want. my family weren't overly keen on the idea, and I haven't heard the last of how much it's going to cost them to be there, but it's a 2 week holiday for them as well at the end of the day and I know they wouldn't not be there.

We both phoned family members when we initially had the idea of a destination wedding and asked them all first if we did it would they come. That's a good starting block i'd say...but do just follow your heart and your wishes...this is YOUR day.

Good luck :)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
