Dreams Riviera Cancun - Brides post here (new thread)

Recommended Posts

Thanks for the information. Did you just scan a blank check or did you actually fill it out?

I'm asking because she did not specify who to make the check payable to or any other details. Thanks : )

Have any of you looked at the wedding site at Dreams Cancun? I love the wedding gazebo at that resort but prefer the overall resort Dreams Riviera Cancun to the one in Cancun. I dont want to have the ceremony in the sand, I'm looking for a bit more formal ceremony but I am not a huge fan of their wedding gazebo. The recent pics posted here made me appreciate it a little more but I am still not thrilled about it.

We are going to invite around 20 guests (haven't announced anything yet) and I'm not sure if many people will be able to afford the trip. Have any of you sent out save the dates or invites yet and how soon should those be sent prior to the ceremony to allow guests time to plan?

i used a credit card. despite the exchange fee you have to pay. in all my research i have read you should pay for everything with CC in case something goes wrong... then you can get reimbursed. no such luck with cash/check, etc.

i don't think anyone on this thread is liking the weird gazebo much. we are going for the beach wedding as well. check tripadvisor and the dreams rivera cancun facebook site... they seem to have some more useful photos.

i am going to send my STD about 10 mos in advance. most people we are inviting already have the heads up anyways. we have a free website through theknot.com that i have already set up to include basic information. i will be updated it soon once i have more details from my TA. i don't think anyone who has a DW expects everyone to be able to attend. that is why i am giving those closest to me as much time as possible to plan ahead. many have said they are already saving and plan to turn it into a week long vacation for them. i couldn't be more thrilled!

nice to see another PDX'er on here! welcome :-)

just a heads up to anyone reading this thread... if you are looking for the oct/nov 2010 timeframe at DRC i would start inquiring about dates asap. when i checked a few weeks ago every fri/sat for sept/oct/nov were already booked. (except for sat sept 11, which i don't think many people want!) there were many thurs and mondays left. but i wouldn't sit on it too long!

Hey ladies - it's been a while since I posted - I've been super busy with work ughhh.

Thanks for posting the pictures of the reception sites - I think I like the deck for my reception. In the slide show that was posted a while ago there was a picture of the Jacuzzi area - it's just a grassy space a little ways from the pool. At least that's what it looked like in the picture I saw.

We used a credit card too for our deposit - just in case - I think it's the safest way. Be careful though because some credit cards charge an extra $15 for any foreign transactions. American Express does not, so we'll be using that one going forward :)

We sent out the save the dates at the end of October for our wedding in September 2010 - and then we have the website up and TA standing by. We invited 140 people so we wanted to make sure people had plenty of time to plan. I read in one of my magazines that you should send the Save the Date 10 to 12 mos in advance, the actual invitation 3 mos before the wedding and have the rsvp date be 6 weeks before the wedding.

Happy thursday everyone!

Thanks for all the pictures!! I attached a couple that Ana sent me that are a little different than the ones previously posted. I think I decided to have my reception on the pool deck. Although, the picture on the Dreams website of the beach reception looks awesome too! I think, though, for dancing the deck would be better and it's so close to the beach!

I also paid my deposit by credit card. I just scanned all of the info that Ana requested and emailed it to her.

I was wondering...Ana sent me an email with photos of bridal bouquets that are included in the package. Does anyone know if you can change these at all? Maybe just the colors at least?

I haven't started on my OOT bags at all. My wedding is in 3 months!! I feel so behind. I just didn't want to start buying stuff until I know exactly how many are coming. Some of my friends are definitely waiting until the last minute!! As far as my invitations...I just got engaged in July 2009, picked the destination in August and the resort in September so I didn't really have time to send out STD's and invites. So, I sent out my invites at the end of September and gave an RSVP date of December 1. Everyone pretty much knew the invites were coming before they got them though and it was plenty of time for everyone to book. Actually, the people who booked last week got the cheapest price and a preferred club room with jacuzzi in room and on balcony!! I am jealous...their room is nicer than mine, I think :)

Okay...sorry for the looonnng post blush2.gif

Thanks for all the information everyone, it makes life so much easier to be able to talk to other people who are planning the same thing as me : )

I think I will also scan my credit card info and email it to Ana and we will send out our STD's in about a month (hopefully) - my family will need plenty of time to plan.

Another question for everyone. We are having a small wedding (20 or so) and are trying to stick to a budget so we chose the basic wedding package and then we'll pay for all the extras that we want. From my emails with Ana, I believe a private dinner reception will be about $60/guest. My question is, do any of you know of any other reception options? I've read about the buffet option (but I heard that it's for > 40 guests only) and the semi-private receptions-would that take place in one of the restaurants?

Have any of you noticed that the prices on the DRC site have gone up in the last few days? We haven't booked our room yet just to be certain this is the resort we want. I was surprised to see the prices go up but I guess they are the # 1 hotel now!

Thanks again : )

We are having about 35 people. When choosing my package, I worked out all of the prices of packages with adding extras. Did Ana send that document with the prices of all of the extras to you? If you are planning on having a private dinner reception, it is definitely more economical to upgrade your package. If you are having the cocktail hour with your reception, the price per person is more like $90. I asked Ana if a buffet was an option and she told me that it was and did not mention that there was a minimum amount of guests required. Hopefully, there is not because I was planning on having a buffet! Hope this helps :)

Hi ladies! I've been MIA for a little bit. Work, kids, homework, coaching my daughters cheerleading squad consumes so much of my time. I'm drained, plus I had to take a break from this forum because the more I read, the more I wanted and the more I stressed myself out. I sent out STD in early September, ordered my dress last month, paid the deposit and so far 38 guests have booked. I feel good about what I've accomplished so far and I'm trying really hard not to stress out over the little stuff. Thanks to all of you for posting the information on the photographers & cocktail/reception locations. I like the pool deck the best. Has anyone had their invitations made or making their own that you can share?

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
