Jennifer- I dont think a lot of us from the US are aware of the different policies between the US and Canada. I know I def dont. And it never really phases me to look at where someone is from on here when replying to a thread.

Just trying to help.

That's why I posted the info! I think it works both ways as the Canadians probably don't the differences with US suppliers/ tour ops either- but of course why would anyone know what the differences are if you live in a different country! :)

It seems like it should be the same for us & our northern neighbors but it's really quite different- the pricing and policies with the tour operators/suppliers for the two countries!

The only reason I brought it up is I see alot or brides that get upset when they are going to the same resort and start compating policies and prices not realizing that the difference comes from basically what country you live in! who needs any additional stress when planning your DW!?

There is one Mexico hotel chain in particular that started sending me their Candian offers and promotions- let's just say the Canadians have it faaarrrr better than we do with that particular chain-especially for weddings! I was pretty suprised!

It's one of the reasons I love working with Sandals/Beaches - the policies and pricing is teh same on both sides of the border and they are extremely fair about adjusting rates to reflect price drops!! I actually have an enturely different destination wedding contract for Sandals & Beaches DW's than for other resorts because the policies are so different!

Ugh! just breaks my heart because the lowest rate now is about $700 less than it's original rate over a month ago. I totally get that prices could go up, but they didn't and the TA completely insisted it was urgent to get everyone booked. so it was a huge panic, printing invitations, mailing them, calling everyone, it was a bit of a gong show that wasn't necessary. I'm so disappointed, but TA Jennifer you're right we'd freak if we had to pay even more, but prices went down tons and we still have to pay the higher rate. Anyway, I've emailed my TA and we'll see what she says when she gets back to me in a couple days, probably just "too bad so sad" in nicer words sad.gif

we weren't offered insurance for if the trip goes down, must be a US thing? lucky bums! lol

I too had a similar problem. What I can suugest to you is to check the fine print of your ticket. Sometimes there are clauses there that can help with price difference. With any luck your travel agent will be able to get you a discount/refund or maybe even switch tour companies. That is what happened with us. But also remember that because you see a big price drop does not mean that is available for a group of your size. These may be the last seat or two on the plane that they are trying to get ride of. A lot of the times this is the case. Good Luck I know it is stressful, but there really is not a lot you can do about it. Just keep in touch with your TA and pour on the sugar. You know what they say abot honey!! And if she is a woman then all the better because she will understand your position.

GOOD NEWS!!!

So Nolitours started up a trip the same days as us for $500 less than our route rate! i freaked! i told my TA to ask them for a group rate for us, it came back to us and even with our group forfieting the $200 deposit with Sunquest we'd still save $250 per person...well my TA told Sunquest that we might drop them and they matched the rate of Nolitours (plus $200) so we are now paying the exact same we'd pay if we switched companies! i'm so happy :) we actually are paying even a little less. so great!!

So this will make everyone who has booked so happy and anyone left to book can go with out group or not! it's great! oh happy day!! now, no more looking at rates. lol

Thats great! I know the Canadian tour companies can be difficult to deal with because there is so few of them.

I'm going to a Riu property which means that there is only Sunquest to deal with. But on the plus side when I booked they offered a price adjustment clause if the price of the trip goes down prior to 60 days before departure. I can only make the adjustment once and there has to be seats available, but still it makes me feel much better about the whole thing :)

I'm really glad it all worked out for you. Planning the travel side of it can be really stresseful!

Hi ladies,

I'm thinking of booking my wedding for February, 2011 in Punta Cana. I have just contacted a TA and just received some quotes from her and they seem pretty high.

I'm wondering how far in advance you sent out your invitations and travel information? Did you wait until 6 months before to start booking your guests?

Ya i would think it's a little too soon to start booking. we started booking in Aug/Sept for our wedding in March. so 6 months, and i wished that we had waited until about 4 months and sent the STD around 6 or 7 months. But i'm pretty sure that there are some threads specific to that to get a bunch of other peoples views and advice. Good luck!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
