We have decided to go with the gala dinner. The beach reception sounds amazing but with 70+ people it was out of our budget. My TA has been negotiating like crazy with the resort, and right after we finally reached an agreement on the dinner they sprung the news of the bar costs on us. We haven’t committed to any bar service and we are thinking we will negotiate this in person. I wish I knew the layout of the resort because our guests sure wouldn’t mind getting their own drinks if there is a bar close.

Thanks for all the helpful hints ladies :)

Corey, the catamaran can be rented out by the size in 4 or 7 hour periods and I believe it starts at about $2300 for a 4 hour period for a 40 person catamaran. There are all kinds of companies, try googling "cancun boat rentals" or "cancun tours".

Sunseeker, have you considered taking your guests on a sunset dinner cruise instead of paying the ridiculous amounts the resort has asked you to? If I end up with "too many" I might choose that option. I have a really hard time paying for things that my guests have already been charged for, such as open bar!!!

Amandseth, wow!!! Less than two months away! I hope you will share somee pics with us! You must be getting really excited! Are you getting married in Canada before you go or are you doing it all down there?

Llama, I'm getting VERY excited! I've got my shower and stagette this weekend(decided to do them together to accommodate out of town guests), and I'm pretty excited about that! Mom has rented an entertainment room at my aunts condos and is hosting the shower there. Then the stagette will begin later in the afternoon with some rollerskating (old school style) at a roller rink. Then moving on to a brewery for a tour and tasting. Will order in pizza there. Mom booked us a couple of rooms on Whyte Ave(trendy bar/shops district), so we'll go get dolled up, then head out to a martinin bar to start and finishing off at a country club for dancing. At 28, I don't do much clubbing these days, I think I've been out dancing twice in the last three years, so needless to say I'm super excited.

I'll definitely share photos upon my return from Mexico!! That is assuming I've accrued enough points to be able to do that... anyone know how the points thing works? I'm on here almost every day, and yet I still can't seem to download attachments and stuff....

We're getting married, legally, on October 23rd with my nana and papa as witnesses. They will not be joining us in Mexico, and I know they will be honored to still get to play a part. We haven't decided where yet, will likely depend on the weather that day.

But my suggestion it`s to go for a private reception, it`s better for you because it`s more tiem and better service. I`m sending you the info."
'The Info' tells me that a private reception in a banquet hall starts at $35/plate and on the beach $85 per person! This is NOT in our budget, so I wrote back and told her this is the first I've heard of a limit, and we have not budgeted for it. I offered to change restarants if she thinks there is one a bit bigger to accommodate us.
I'm really hoping that she's just trying to sell me on spending more $$ at the resort and that this is not going to be an issue!!! I will keep you all posted on how it pans out! Keep your fingers crossed for me!

We were having the same issue with 41 guests...All I can tell you ladies is to stick with your guns and donâ€t back down! Get your travel agent involved if need be to speak with the Manager. Weâ€ve been booked at the resort for over 10 months and they tried to spring this on us 6 weeks before our wedding...I was livid girl_werewolf.gif and eventually they agreed to go ahead with our wedding plans as agreed to originally.

Our back up plan if we do have extra people book last minute is for those guests to make a separate reservation in the same restaurant at the same time. The reception is only an hour and a half long and from what Iâ€ve been told from other brides that have been married here is that there isnâ€t a lot of time for much except eating during that time....so really your extra guests wonâ€t miss too much. Of course this isnâ€t ideal, but when the other option is spending an additional $1300 on a private reception (excluding bar service) it is really the lesser of the 2 evils.

Good luck ladies!!

cheers.gif Cheers!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
