We are getting married in Key West in 2 weeks and planning a BBQ style reception at home (in MI) next June. The wedding is very small - just our parents & siblings.

Here is where I am having trouble:

Do I need to send out an announcement immediately following the wedding? Do I include info about the reception then? Or do I wait to send a reception invitation 2 mos in advance? dizzy.gif

I really would prefer not to send out 2 mailings due to our budget, but I'm thinking this may be the best.

I think send out send out two different invitations, but it also depends on how formal you want it. If you want it to be more traditional, then send out two, for more casual/smaller sized party, then you could probably get away with sending them out with your marriage announcements....

It really does get to be so expensive doesn't it!!

We sent out save-the-dates to everyone via evite. Almost everyone has booked and I am still being "told" I need to send out "real" invitations to make it more official/formal...

Good luck!

Since you're on a budget maybe you should do one mailing 2 months before the wedding saying you had a small ceremony and would like to celebrate your marriage. Or if you have the date already set for the reception send out a wedding announcement/ save the date? Then an evite/ postcard reminder instead of a formal invite. If you're creative maybe you can do this as a DIY project. Check out vistaprint they have many inexpensive options.

That's a good idea... maybe just try not to have it too far after the wedding.

Geessh . . . I hadn't thought about that. Our situations are slightly different. I'm going to send out Electronic (mostly) save the dates, that let them know there will be an ATR the following spring and a link to our website, and ask for an informal RSVP. Then I'll send out formal invites to all that RSVP'd yes (you find differing opinions on this . . . I may change my mind). Finally I will send out semi formal invites to the ATR.

We're getting married next month and having out AHR in February. I've already made it known to everyone that we're having an AHR because everyone keeps asking about it. I'm sending out our AHR invites on the day we leave to get married. The verse I chose on the invites makes it understandable why they are sent out earlier then usual.

Thank you everyone! Great ideas!!! :)

We had thought about moving the date, but because of his work schedule, my grad school & living in KS right now, we just couldn't find a different time.

lnf_munchkin - could you give me a little more info on your electronic save-the-date? website? I would really like to do an electronic announcement/STD with info about the AHR.

I will probably mail an invite a couple months prior and have guests RSVP to our website.

Keira - I love your idea too! would you mind sharing your verse?

Oh sure. I just didn't have it with me at work so I couldn't add it earlier.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
