Great News!!! My sister is coming!!! We finally sat down and talked things thru and she said she really wanted to go and in the end she would regret not being there for my wedding. So she's going to be there whether her husband goes or not....Yea!!! I have my MOH back :)

She married 5 years ago and had a nice ceremony at home. I really think it has to do more with a "controlling" husband than her not really wanting to be there. But tonight she texted me again and pretty much let me have it for having a wedding away from home where more of my family would not be able to attend. Pretty much called me selfish for having a destination wedding and forcing her to choose between me and her husband!!!!!
I didn't want this to come between us, but I'm not the one forcing her to choose! I simply want her there and am willing to pay for her to be there !!! I feel like if it was so important for her, as she told me it was originally, then she would accept the offer, no questions asked!!!!
So,I guess I'll just keep planning... and try to not let it get me down... and like you said, maybe she'll turn around.
This is her husband talking, not her.

I was shocked to say the least because they committed months ago and even paid deposits. They've known for a year about our plans and now all of a sudden... one can't afford it so the other is backing out too because he doesn't want to go alone. I couldn't believe it. I was working hard last night trying to get him a good rate for single occupancy and he says "if I knew ____ wasn't going to come I wouldn't have booked because I don't want to go alone". I was so hurt by that comment, I started to cry and said you'd miss your best friends wedding because you don't want to go alone? I was so upset I had to hang up. The worst is my fiancee is really upset and extremely hurt, but he tells them it's ok. NO IT'S NOT!! He even said to me last night that in the beginning he didn't think anyone would come, then when they all put down their deposits he got all excited... backing out like this is such a blow. He has one friend coming now. I have three bridesmaids and he has a best man. We are all going to be lopsided, lol

But seriously.... how do you get past the selfishness of others? We are really starting to see who our true friends are. I dunno... if it was me I would have been saving for months and without question would be there. cry.gif
I have a feeling some of our guests will back out as well. I think it's par for the course. That's fine with me. I'm glad people are weeding themselves out!

Awesome news, You want to talk to my brother who hasn't booked yet because he thinks he is so smart and thinks if he waits to the very last minute he is going to get the deal of a life time and brag to everyone how stupid they are for booking early. Oh he needs to be smacked!!!!!
We had company over in August just after the invites were sent out and he was telling other people that I invited that if you go online at 2am in the morning a few days before the departure date you can get deals like half price. I was so close to murder, can you amagine waiting for quest to book days before the wedding. Yikes!!!! He so got a blast of "shut up before I kill you"
Oh forgot to mention "my brother the extent of his worldly travel experience, is Thunder Bay Ontario hunting friggin deer"stfu.gifcensored.gif

I've had people mention that too. Originally my date was Oct 17th, 2009 but due to some issues with family and time away from work, we had to move back to May 29, 2010. So I've priced this trip on 2 different occassions now. We actually booked in August 09 for our May'10 wedding because we found an early booking special on Orbitz and our travel agency was willing to price match. The prices were even cheaper than what we had originally been quoted for Oct '09 in the offseason!!!. Nearly $1000.00 cheaper for our 9 night stay!!!!! I've been continuing to price check amongst different travel sites and have yet to find anything cheaper or even close.....Sometimes waiting to the last minute isn't the best idea! Our flight is already booked up and the wedding is 8 months away!!!!!!

People always have to have their two cents... I love my bro but he always has to have a smart ass comment. When I told him to stop saying that he seen prices online half of what I was quoted by the TA, he was clueless as to what my issue was. I check the prices everyday and YEAH!!!! some nights I am awake stressing out over this wedding, I check the prices online and they don't change!!!!!!! I am down to less than four months and I feel people should be booking now, waiting until last minute is a gamble..

Well, last night I sent a reminder to my bm's about Monday being the final day they can put down their deposit in order to secure the pricing of the group rate and two of them pretty much said they don't know if they can come now. SO FRUSTRATING! I've given them 8 months advanced notice and they are both bartenders so I know they make good money. Their trip for four days, flight included is $877. that's it! Even if they put aside $150 a month (which is like one shift of bartending a month) they could save it! It just tells me that they aren't interested in being in the wedding. Now the groomsmen/bridesmaid count is off and I'm going to be forced to ask two girls that are just "sort of" friends to be in the wedding and I didn't want to do that. It's so frustrating cuz I see these girls who say they can't afford it out shopping every week yet, they're so broke. Ugh sad.gif

As far as the rates, my future in laws were at Barcelo Palace last year and they told me the rates I got through my TA were half of what they paid last year in March. I feel confident I was able to get a good rate and if my guests wait till the last minute, they are gonna get screwed sad.gif Oh well, their issue. I can't stress over it because it's sucking all the fun out of planning this wedding. We have to just relax and let whoever comes, come and not fret, righthuh.gif?!!!!

Ugh, that sucks!!! Don't ya just wish that people would be up front and say from the beginning they can't afford it or don't want to go rather than encouraging you to have a DW, say they'll be there no matter what and then suddenly back out. I think it is less painful if you have warning!!! What started out looking like 40+ people has now dwindled down to maybe 20-30 guests for us, but whatever, we'll have a great time no matter what!!!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
