Thanks for posting that info. Its nice to hear first hand how things are down there and what to expect. Im not worried anymore about my choice - so sure about Sandos now from all the info on this thread and your last few posts.

Hope you enjoyed your time down there.

On a side note, did you have to pay full price to go down for the site visit or did your travel agent through that in for you...hopefully its not too intrusive of a question.

Thnks!

J

The Italian Buffet is really good. It is the only air conditioned buffet area on the resort. The Riviera Buffet is in the Riviera section but i think it specializes in seafood and that was closed while we were there. The Italian Buffet is where we will have our reception, they have a side room that is open to the public area but it will hold a good size group as well. There are 2 sets of pillars that break that room off from the rest. Then you just go to the buffet with all the people attending the buffet that night (no reservations for this buffet). They had pizza, pasta made to order, salad, plated meals like chicken and pork with vegetables, desert was ice cream and the normal assortment of cakes, etc. We wished it had been open more the week we were there but it was great and if you don't want a completely private reception dinner, then this is the best option the resort has.

I still need to get them scanned in and put on here or email, sorry I work is crazy, but I promise I will get to it ASAP. I did want to answer your question on the Italian Buffet quickly though.

We are getting married January 7, 2010 at 4:30. I agree that Paola has been great to work with and she has been very willing to answer all of my questions.

Hi Jilligirl!

I will be in Mexico checking out resorts the same week you are getting married. Sandos is one of the resorts we are really interested in. Are you having a private reception? How many people will be at your wedding (I am finding it hard to wrap my head around all the costs)?

Also if you don't mind sharing, what price are your guests paying for one week AI (some of our guests are fairly price sensitive)?

Thanks and good luck!!!

Actually Pinz we will have about 30 guests staying at the resort and a few that need day passes. We aren't going to have a private reception, it is way to expensive. We may rent the disco for a couple hours because then everything is covered and they told us we can have a microphone and do a slide show. They also only allow kids at the disco if you book it privately and my fiance and I have a daughter. OUr price per person is 1756, we are flying from Calgary but this is for the junior suite on the newer Riviera section so I guess we got a pretty good deal but it seems really expensive to me.

Jilligirl - I actually got the same sort of quote as you for January, so I think its pretty much the same price across the board. I was kind of surprised at the cost as well, but it is a pretty nice hotel and they have a lot of ammenties. So I guess its a given especially for high season.
Congrats!

Thanks! No we decided against the private reception b/c of the extra cost. We are planning on eating at one of the restaurants and then going to the disco at the resort or going into town to a bar. We are going to wait until we get there to see what the bar at the resort is like.
How much is it to reserve the disco? I never thought of that idea but that sounds nice. It is probably in my quotes somewhere but I can't find it right now.
Thanks!

Will they section off an area for your dinner at one of the restaurants? The disco idea sounds good. Did they quote you a price to rent it? If you rent it for a few hours is that where you would do your first dance and any speeches??

We have quite a few guests that aren't going to stay at the resort we book either because they don't like All Inclusives.

That price seems pretty good. We are really hoping to find a place that we can get for under $1800 per guest.

The other cost I am curious about is the photographer. The package info that the resort sent me does not include a lot of pictures. Are you planning to upgrade that portion of your package?

Did your travel agent offer a deal for you and your fiance if enough rooms get booked at the Sandos Playacar? We have heard rumers of this but since our wedding is still over a year away, we have not even contacted a travel agent yet.

Good Luck with the rest of your planning, I am excited to hear how everything turns out!

Thanks for all the info!

So Paola told me the photographer will take around 200 pictures no matter what package you get. The package number is what they actual hard copy number of the picture they give you. I am just going to add the emails the Paloa sent to me, I know that a lot of this info is already up but I will repost it again. Yeah I think the disco is awesome, I really want to do a slide show and the first dance and what not, so it will be great. I think its around 280 dollars per hour. If you have a certain amount of rooms booked, you get a deal through the resort. FOr example we got the Riviera wedding package and if we get 18 rooms booked we get 850 dollars off. 15 rooms we get 300 of. Also my TA said that through transat if we get 16 rooms booked, the bride gets 500 dollars off her travel costs. SHe also told us if we want to upgrade to first class it is 160 dollars extra per flight.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
